Salah Mejri 12 Points/5 Assists/3 Blocks/2 Threes Full Highlights (4/5/2019)

I've written a lot of words about who the next Dirk Nowitzki should be for Dallas. I'm still not one-hundred percent convinced that Dirk is actually going to retire, and I won't be convinced until he at least cries a little bit because of how emotional he is for his career ending. But let's say, for the sake of argument, that he really is going to retire. Who should replace him as the unofficial player-mascot for the Mavericks?
There are a lot of options, most of which I've already discussed previously. Dwight Powell. Luka Doncic. Kristaps Porzingis. Maxi Kleber. Charlie Villanueva (still a free agent and dying for another NBA shot). J.J. Barea. But one name I haven't mentioned: Salah Mejri!
He's got several arguments in his favor when it comes to be the ersatz Nowitzki. For one thing, he can shoot threes now. He can shoot threes, AND he can make threes. People are figuring out that it isn't really that hard to shoot them, even if they're not really a jump-shooter in the first place. For another thing, he's big. Dirk was (and still is, despite some age-related shrinkage) big, and so is Mejri. Oh yeah, and he's foreign. Dallas fans love the exotic nature of foreign players, and Mejri is even more exotic than Dirk. He looks like he wants to lure you into his stall at the bazaar (or do they call it a "souk") and sell you fragrant perfumes and resins.
Mejri's already been with Dallas for four seasons now. That's another thing that Dirk had that his replacement would need to have: longevity. I can see Mejri being one of those players who just sticks around as a role player for the same team forever. Kind of like a Tunisian Jeff Foster.
