Setting aside the x factor that is Salah's output, I'd like to draw a parallel (at scale obviously) with my beloved Philadelphia Union in MLS. At the end of last season, we had a goalkeeper, CB, LB, CM and CAM out of contract. Our ownership has always played moneyball. We're one of the lowest spending teams in the league, but over the last 4 years we've absolutely dominated the regular season (though not won the cup sadly). Those guys out of contract have achieved record sabes, record clean sheets, record assists, record appearances, and record goals. The manager pushed for the club to renew them all and "get the bad back together" for one last shot at the cup. The result: a series of unfortunate injuries and national team call-ups, and we finished in the bottom half of the table, outside the playoff line for the first time in 7 years. I know Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold have always been good, or bounced back to deliver for Liverpool, but sometimes getting the band back together doesn't pan out. Either way it's an incredibly difficult decision for the club to make.

A good analysis. My thoughts on this, Liverpool’s policies make a lot of sense certainly but they’re mostly from impact of age of form of the player which is fair enough but despite this we have had a very poor transitional system which would allow for younger and newer players to play along established players before they run out of contracts. The benefits of these established players albeit their perceived “decline” in form is not only inducting younger newer players into the system but also instilling into them a resilience of the winning mentality; qualitative for sure but goes a long way to have younger players believe in achieving it all because they’re playing alongside those who have done the same. Look at Elliot for example playing alongside Salah, Salah’s celebrations of his 1st CL goal and though Elliot was a good player he had that injury setback that could have nailed him but no, we see what a player he’s. Same goes for (Jones, Trent), Bradley, Quansah and the rest of the Klopp kids from last season joining 1st team games and playing alongside players they have been looking up to and believing they can make an impact. At the moment the only secure position in terms of transition is the right back. A new right wing good but does he bring Salah’s resilience and character even though he might match his numbers - if at all there’s one in Europe doing that? A new LCB good but does he bring VVD off the pitch qualities even if he’s defensively solid? I loved this analysis from Simon on X x.com/simonbrundish/status/1861080558001934759?s=61

There’s another angle here. Salah will drop off in next 3 years, that’s fair and realistic. Will he drop off next year - unlikely to be significant. So why not sign him, see how he goes and then the option to sell is always there. He won’t stay if minutes are guaranteed and Saudi will still be there in 1/2 years

Mo Salahs extension of his contract is a no brainer, tbh. Nearly never injured, no scandals, 20+ goals every season, absolute professional footballer. 2 years plus 1 in option at same wages is the deal in my opinion. Virgil 2 years without option, because he is not THAT unreplaceable. Trent is another story......new contract (and he will want more money) if he will be played at a Toni Kroos position besides Gravenberch/MacAllister. But not as RB. His value is in producing passes, not in defending a side and playing here and there a pass.

You are overcomplicating things. Salah is one of the best players out there. On a perfect form, he still has at least 3 years of top-level football. The ownership can give him a 3 years contract at top salary, and if he starts to drop, you can always sell to Saudi, especially for Mo. For Virgil and TAA you can give them offers and obviously you don't have to match it because despite being very important, they don't have as much contribution to our output and they are not forward players. It's a fact. Virgil can stay for another 2 years, TAA is already too late, and it's the club management fault. Everything else we are discussing is speculation on how they may or may not perform next year, and it's a waste of time and opportunity.

There’s no reality in which Mo accepting the Ballon d’or next fall while playing for another club is anything other than a complete disaster for LFC. FSG gambled that Mo would fall off a cliff by now and they could offer him a cut rate contract or let him go to Saudi. Instead, he elevated his game to a higher level. FSG has no choice but to pay Mo mostly what he wants for 2 or three years. NO CHOICE. I’m a Dodgers fan and I love Mookie Betts. If FSG’s plan is winning World Series you don’t let him get away. Is FSG’s plan to win PL titles? We’re about to find out.

He is getting paid 350k a week and im sure he wants more! The second highest players is gettin 100k a week less so if we give him 400k a week and thats the minimum raise then thats 150k a week more than the second best paid player! Then VVD will want at least 300k a week and Trent The same! What about the rest of the squad ? So before you blink your are paying lets say 50k more of each player times 20 thats at least 2,5 mil a week! My point is the bigger picture is not financially wise!

Salah really knows how to stop us from celebrating a good start to the season and make it all about him. The fact that this guy openly spoke about something that LFC rather keep in-house is not a good look or professional of him. If Salah really loved the club and the fans, then he would sign the two year deal as opposed to 3 plus years he is hoping. And I can imagine he is asking for a bigger pay rise. On the other hand Trent is also asking for a pay rise... going forward, with their pay rises, how do we expect the club to make new signings when the extra pay rise can be going towards two new signings weekly wages. Some Liverpool fans are so deluded and out of touch from a clubs business and cashflow point of view. Not to mention that young academy players also get a weekly wage, plus the X amount of staff who work for LFC. Stop with this nonsense of give him what he wants because if Gravenberch never made that pass to Salah then Salah was in no position to score. Should Gravenberch now ask for 50k more fot that pass? Liverpool win because of team effort... Kelleher making saves, defence doing their part. It's not 11 opposition vs 1 man Salah, is it? Sick and tired of give Salah what he wants nonsense!!!!

Are you for real, we scored 24 goals this season and salah contribute for 16, him and virgil are the leaders of the group. How can you say that they dont deserve a pay rise, did the likes of Keita, Chiesa ,Ox or Thiago deserved their salaries?

Do you REALLY think the players isn't aware of the situation. Do you think what he said comes as a surprise? How do you dare question his morale, ethics and dedication? He can also break his leg today as can EVERY other player in the coming eternity

Well soon start pulling levers like Barcelona and Real Madrid. Get ready to rename the Kenny and the Kop. Any suggestions?

Sign Salah and sign Nico Williams to add speed on the right and compete it’d be unstoppable. Or then Salah could become the N9.

If it was that easy I look forward to your £120M donation to Liverpool FC 😂

Very unrealistic, FIFA-esque idea.

*It's far better to let Trent go. He's simply not that good. * Salah for 1 more season is good. Not more. Age is not just a number. It is REAL. * VVD for 1 more season. Anything more than 1 season and we'll lose a alot due to sentimentality. Trent can be replaced by nearly any semi decent RB in the world. He is an overrated English player. --->all three replaced is a far better business if VVD and Salah want more than 1 year which they surely do.

i think the best thing to do is to renew another 2 years i think he will start declining after 34

I'm with you 100% and what you're explain is prospect theory, you feel the loss over the gain and to avoid the loss you make irrational and risky decisions. - its a gamblers fallacy. Also Mo hasn't been offered a new contract because the negotiations go on between management and club. His management obviously don't feel like what is being negotiated is good enough to put to Mo'. Liverpool are the position they are because of the diligence the club has shown and we don't know what those numbers and projections for the future are. Mo needs to speak to his manager not the press and we can't fall into a position of letting the dog wag the tail no matter who it is.

If mo leaves, liverpool will be out of the title race by feb!

come on, we didn't sign any players and we have huge revenue, why are we acting like a small club give the guy a proper 400k per week contract alongside VVD and trent, secure liverpools future over the next 4 years its more expensive to replace them anyway with inferior players 😂

Lawrence this is nonsense you are talking, what other big club lets there 3 best players contracts run out all consecutively. Its embarrassing

So he drops off sometimes? Have you seen his stats since he came???? His biggest injury was from the Ramos attack. I'll drop both Trent and Virgil before Salah. This seems like you are playing the petty money game. He also make the other team put less pressure on our other attackers as they always must make him their biggest focus. You will never get a player at this level for 300k. You must go Vinicous Junior to keep the performances. You really disappoint me in this video, I mean really. Just the money saved on Chiesa will pay Mo's salary quite a while. I am really disappointed Loz. Almost to the bye bye level.

I get where you’re coming from but I don’t get what you’re disappointed in? I didn’t say let him go, I just tried to understand what the rationale is.
@LeperMessiah23 күн бұрын
@LaurenceMcKennaonLFC well that is not my take after thoroughly watching the video and by that your bodylanguage and hearing the tonality of what you said and when. As stated, for the first time I am truly disappointed. I am not playing the usual patronizing guilt game that is common online aswell as irl.

@@LeperMessiah2I get that the other angle is “sign the contract!” But what does that leave? I think exploring angles is more interesting than what I see already said online. I’m not saying I don’t want him, I’m saying: it’s not the only option and maybe we should try looking at what angles there are.
@LeperMessiah22 күн бұрын
@@laurencemckenna oh I get that but those angles can't be explored, especially in the situation we are in now. If we were midtableish and he was on par with let's say a Gakpo (skillwise, not position wise) absolutely yes but the risk of both financial aswell as results are to high. I think it's about contract length mote than money and I doubt he will drop much even if he gets 3 years. Skill, fitness and injury (stats and on the eye) wise he ranks like Ronaldo and Messi over the last 7? years he will easily get a massive Saudi or US contract at 35. Let's find a good 50-70 mill player that plays a similar style like him over the next couple of years but a player that can be developed a bit (hence the price range) As prev mentioned I think Trent can be the sacrificial lamb for me. Konate is extraordinary but only due to the fact he knows Virgil got his back to a degree. Sacrifice Trent and get a very good left back and a good option on the right as we already have a good option for Trent. A question by the way. Do you feel our left side is way more developed than our right?
