On this island the naval battle of Salamis took place between Greeks and Persians in 480 BC. of great importance, because it stopped the expansion of the Persians throughout Europe. There is the tomb of the Salaminomachians, but also the cave of the great ancient tragic poet Euripides. Enjoy Gabe!

Another great video! Incidentally, on the island they found The Salamis Stone which has carvings on it of ancient units of measurement. Vitruvius, a Roman architect described the stone in his book De Architectura. Leonardo Da Vinci read the book and was inspired by the description of the stone and that influenced his drawing Virtruvian Man.

Hi Gabriel, if you haven't been to Kythira, you should definately go. Easy drive from Athens to Neapoli to grab the one hour boat trip, though there's also an airport. Hands down one of the most authentic islands, has fantastic local food & produce, its own water sources, amazingly varying landscape, waterfalls, monasteries, the white beach at the port (Diakofti), the beautiful tiny fjord-like bay of Avlemonas and the very dramatic views from Kastro towards Kapsali. Lots to see on the island of Aphridite. This should be combined with Elafinissos, the small island just north of Kythira, some of my favourite beaches in Greece, the underwater ancient town of Pavlopetri...Elafonisos is 5min by boat from Pounta.

Given that you are in the area, maybe you might enjoy visiting the Eleusis/Elefsina archeological site. It is where most noteworthy Greeks of ancient times were initiated into the Eleusian mysteries (which sadly remain that, as taking about it was punishable by death). Some say, this might have involved hallucinogenics in a drink called kykeon. I don't think there's too much vlogging content on it and I think the museum has been redone when it was European capital of culture in 2023.

Paloukia, which is indeed the landing port's name, means 'pickets'. Poulakia means 'little birds'! St. George used to be a quarantine station, whih explains the 19th-century buildings. It is now used by the Greek Navy, which has a base both on Salamis and at Perama on the mainland.

Salamina is more known as a historical site rather than a touristy place...In terms of tourism it is the most unexploited island among those of the Saronic bay (Hydra, Spetses, Aigina, Agistri). Also, in the island is located a military base (a headquarter of the navy) and this is an additional reason for being such frequent ferry routes, given that many people in a daily basis commute from Athens. And the piece of cake, many locals and greeks call it as salamykonos instead of Salamina haha..

Unbelievable! welcome to Salamina. Salamina has almost no foreign tourism at all, but it is perhaps the island with the largest number of visitors throughout the year. It is the island where middle-class Athenians, mainly from Western Athens, have their summer residences. we are talking about tens of thousands of houses near the beaches of the island, I also have a summer house there. There are no hotels in the center of Salamis, maybe one or two. You might have noticed the large number of ferries over forty which shows the large number of Athenians visiting their holiday home. The island is quite large and you need a car or taxi to see the beauties of the island. The ferry route is exactly the point where the most important naval battle in history took place. The island of Agios Georgios belongs to the navy and used to be an asylum for psychopaths.

That's so sad... Have you spoken to a doctor about this? Scabies are parasitic mites that burrow into your skin; if they're still there after 6 months, that's very serious.. it sounds like you haven't gotten an official diagnosis though, which should be very easy if you truly do have scabies, as all the doctor needs to do is pull a mite and/or it's egg out of your skin and examine it under a microscope to confirm...
