I am from NL. Salaries given are totally wrong! For instance "teacher salary" presented as 38.500/year. My daughter just started as a teacher and her starting salary incl. everything is 55k/annum (she has vocational school level, NOT academic!).. After halve a year work, she was offered 67k if she moves to a school in Rotterdam. There is a MASSIVE shortage of staff in NL in just about every sector!

Hello! Thank you for your valuable information. What you've said is very interesting because all the data we've reported are official figures analyzed by Eurydice (a European Commission-funded education information network) and reported by EuroNews, as you can see here (www.euronews.com/next/2023/07/05/teachers-pay-which-countries-pay-the-most-and-the-least-in-europe). Obviously, it's not up to us at Amazing Europe to say whether this body of the European Commission has lied or not, but it's very interesting to see such a large discrepancy between their data and your daughter's salary. Euronews reported the Annual gross starting salaries of teachers for the academic year 2020-2021. It would be very interesting to hear if others in the community also see such a big discrepancy between the data provided by the European Commission and their experience.

@@AmazingEuropeChannel Hello! Thanks for your reply. The "official data" does not always reflect the actual situation (at least in NL). The official salary scales for civil servants (like e.g. teachers) can easily be bypassed, in case of a very severe shortage of staff, by "promoting" people (even absolute beginners, like my daughter) to e.g. a "management" function. My daughter was given the title of "section-head", right from the start (after her successful apprenticeship). Which means she is in the managerial salary scale, which is higher than that of a teacher, with larger annual steps. This practise happens a lot to attract people in an extremely tight labour market.

@Abhi-el4fx Hi! According to data from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Finland ranks 11th in Europe with an average monthly salary of around 3770 euros gross, in 2022. Are you Finnish? Does this match your data?

Is the pay gap based on the same job? There is a huge difference between the jobs that males take and what females take. If you’re going to talk about a gender pay gap you need to provide the facts and reasoning behind it.

Hi! That's a great question! The data we showed in the video comes from the UN, OECD, and the European Union. From what we've seen, these organizations generally report the salaries of men and women and compare them. They do not, therefore, consider the salaries of men and women in the same job position. Indeed, it is illegal to pay a man and a woman differently for the same job. There are many reasons why women earn less than men (except in Luxembourg), some of which we discussed in the section of the video about Switzerland.

Hi! The issue of taxes in Europe is really very complex. If you're interested, we are preparing a video on the topic (although it is not easy to classify European countries according to their taxes).

There is no gender pay gap
@AmazingEuropeChannel
@AmazingEuropeChannel 3 ай бұрын
Hi there! When experts talk about the Gender Pay Gap, they are not referring to the difference in salary between men and women for the same work and the same working hours (which is of course prohibited by law). Instead, they are referring to the overall difference in salary between men and women in a country. As we explained for Switzerland, this is obviously due to a number of factors, such as the different number of working hours between men and women and the different types of jobs they do. Have a great day!
