Can remember sitting alone in my old room after I had lost everything and came across this song in 2011. This was the worst time in my life and I can honestly say it had a sobering, positive impact on me. I packed my bags and left, things didn’t get easier, but I kept moving and I stay moving. I don’t like writing shit like this because the internet ain’t your friend, but I felt compelled to because I know there were guys like me in the same boat, then and now, who didn’t make it out. This one’s for you, player. Don’t give up on yourselves.

This is like the sound of my childhood, mixed with a new hopelessness of growing up and dreams being crushed. Like there's still the memory of those beautiful old days, but with a bitter taste to them now... I guess no one's gonna be "forever young"...

This part of this mix gets more terrifying to me every time I hear it. It's just coated head to toe in this depressed cynicism. With just a tempo/pitch change, heavy reverb, and the closeness of the high end removed, L'Amour Toujours transforms from a celebratory, anthemic, and quite frankly beautiful track that functions as a universal invitation to the promise of happiness provided by the mid 90s-early 00s rave culture with bright synths, ethereal atmospheres, and lyrics that reflect love and beauty to a horrific sight through sound alone. Its classic melody, distorted and moving at a near crawl, becomes a haunting reminder of the truths that might come along with rave culture; the fate which the drug addicted smiley faces never tell you: people will die. As a reminder, it feels ghastly, like the ghost of someone who OD'ed and died at a club in 2002. After the grim interlude that Salem made by scratch, Forever Young feels like it laughs, ending abruptly on the line, "do you really want to live forever?" That just fucks me up so hard. It's like it recontextualizes the meaning from being about the cold war to an argument in favor of rave culture's passive death wish. Do you feel great now? You could become eternally this age. Would you honestly want to live out a full life? Just have fun.

it's like having a flashback to all the festivals, raves and afterparties you been with your closest friends and realizing that's all so far in the past because we all moved on to different directions in life but the one you took feels like it's going nowhere. you just wanna feel like a careless teenager again sneaking out at night experiencing new experiences and see the sunrise with a bright look to the future. the future is here now and you just feel cold and lost, at least then you had this wander to what might be.
