Put myself in a most uncomfortable situation today!
In 1743 Patriots dumped 92,000 pounds of tea in Boston Harbor. Months later Great Britain would punish the patriots by imposing multiple unfair acts and taxes including the Boston Port Act, as retribution for the tea dumping incident. Life in Boston was tumultuous, as felt by then acting Governor Thomas Hutchinson. Hutchinson was replaced by Military General Thomas Gage, a hard line royalist who sought to make residents of Massachusetts into submissive, law abiding citizens. Shortly after arriving in Boston, Gage realized that his task was not going to be easy due to a strong patriot hold on the city, as organized rebellion was brewing. He decided to move the colonial government to Salem Massachusetts, 250 years ago today and this is that story…
The Salem Maritime National Historic Park and all the historical reenactors did a fantastic job with this event. Thank you to, “General Thomas Gage” and His Majesty’s 10th Regiment of Foot for the great fun.
Also enjoy a look around Salem and see what the city has to offer, That History Chick style ;)
