What a lovely place. Hoping to get the chance to visit some day.

Thanks for doing this video walking tour. Kind of depressing, though. I lived in Salem many years ago when downtown was vibrant and alive..

Unfortunately downtown has taken a terrible turn...thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it - even if it was depressing lol😂

Hello, viewer based in Europe. I am appreciative of these kinds of videos, just to see a standard day in a standard place is very honest and interesting, especially with a local chatting and giving their insights. As I have not visited or paid much attention to America, is this kind of town, meaning receding and rather empty looking, normal in the USA? Other commenters are saying it’s dying, is Salem a place that’s regressing particularly badly or is this widespread across America? Thank you.

Not sure about the rest of America, but Salem is definitely a slowly dying city. Thanks for the comment and the view.

My favorite city!! You did a great job, I wish you could show more of downtown Salem. I love the architecture of the building faces. But it seems sad to me that Salem looks abandoned. Or maybe this was on an early Sunday morning? When I look at this city, I see so much potential for beauty and interest BUT NOT make it like Portland (where I've lived for 14 years). I love Salem! 👍👍👍

I moved away from Salem in 2000. I used to go to that Rite Aid all the time. Meier and Frank was great, had a great cafe inside for when shopping was too much. I went to Governor's cup frequently for about a year when a girlfriend worked there. I also went to Coffee Bean from time to time to study. I had hoped you would go by or comment on the Elsinore theater and Capitol theater -- are they still even there?

I was born in Salem, completed 12 years of school, and then moved to Eugene for college. I came back for the family business and moved out in 1984. My brother thinks Salem is the best thing in the world. Moving out was the best decision I ever made. Salem used to be boring. Now it's boring and dead.

Looks dead. I wish the big stores didn’t close. Worked at Penney’s back in the day.

Yeah, all the big stores are closing, Macy's closes in Feb of 2025 and then all that's left is Kohl's.
