Gene Lees a Canadian music critic, worked as a newspaper journalist in his native Canada before moving to the United States, and was known as a perceptive and critical music writer and biographer, a fine lyricist, co-writing such stylish standards as "Yesterday I Heard the Rain" and "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars" (his lyrics for Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Corcovado")
Armando Manzanero Canché, a Mexican musician, singer and composer, widely considered the premier Mexican romantic composer of the postwar era and one of the most successful composers of Latin America. His most famous songs include "Esta Tarde Vi Llover" (English version "Yesterday I Heard the Rain") and "Somos Novios" translated into English by Sid Wayne (composer for Elvis Presley). The English version, "It's Impossible", performed by Perry Como.He received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in United States in 2014.
