*3.21 UPDATE:* Tip #9 in the video is now mostly obsolete, as the 3.21 league is removing the vendor recipes that added flat elemental damage to spells. The generic added physical damage and added spell damage recipes still work though.

Same here! Diablo 4 was super fun and a great gateway into the ARPG world. Since I hit end game it got real boing real quick. There just isn't anything to do. So I figured I'd give POE a good honest try. Like you I've tried it a few times in the past and drowned at the beach. POE 2 looks like it's going to be fun so I figured now is a good time to start learning POE so I'll at least be prepped for it next year. I know the 2 games will be different but I'm sure a lot of the knowledge I gain from POE will be transferrable. Either way, thanks to this guys beginner guides I'm having a blast with POE and I'm hooked. I can't see going back to Diablo 4 unless there are huge changes to the end game and builds.

new player should absolutely follow a build guide and pick skills listed in the guide. Otherwise the character will be bricked as POE doesnt have a good system to wipe skill points like Diablo has.
@salendrak
@salendrak Жыл бұрын
@@robosergTV While I agree that following a build guide is a great idea, I don't think it's necessarily a good idea for anyone that is playing the game for the first time. "New Player" is a very broad category of experience levels, whereas "Total Beginner" is a much smaller sub-set of "New Players". And besides - bricking a character you've been trying to create on your own is likely to be far more educational than blindly following a build guide. But as with all things, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to the game, so it's nice to have options!

@@robosergTV I'm following a build guide for my first play through after dumping 150hours into D4. My plan is that once I've completed campaign, played a little bit of endgame and if i enjoy it to then start over without a guide and try to complete campaign. I feel it might be best to play through with a build guide first as I don't want to spend 100's of hours learning all the small details then getting to endgame and not liking it (im still reading tooltips etc as I play thru campaign). I can pick up basic knowledge whilst following a build guide and then if I enjoyed it I can gain further knowledge from there.

@@salendrak I'm super interested in that. I wonder how many people have landed on your videos because Diablo 4 falls off really fast in end game. Oh and thanks for the tip about only picking up relevant loot. Coming from D4 I just picked up everything in the first few missions of POE to vendor for mats or currency. I spent more time vendoring than I did slaughtering. I thought I needed to build up my mats/currency base at the very beginning of POE since I had nothing. Wish I had watched this video immediately after the getting started video yesterday before I went home and spent several hours vendoring crap. I did make it to level 14 though. 23:45 it should be noted that if you are early on in a trade league, you might potentially want to sell that 6linked item to other players that can use it for a few chaos orbs. Or if you're on SSF, you can keep the 6link for a new character or at least keep it 'banked' to only vendor when you need the sockets.
@salendrak
@salendrak Жыл бұрын
True! And along those lines there are many items that will sell like hotcakes in the first few days of a league, but will only gather dust later on in the league. Gotta love that ever-shifting economy!
@timlampers8610
@timlampers8610 Жыл бұрын
19:45 I would argue that 200-300 life per act is best, as trying to get items that provide good sockets, resistances AND life could be quite tricky. It's generally better to go for resistances and armour/evasion rather than just focussing on life.
@salendrak
@salendrak Жыл бұрын
I agree - a balanced approach is generally best, but you can also think of it as a bit of a sliding scale. If you've got a good balance of defensive stats, less life is needed. By contrast, if you're lacking on resists or other defensive stats, then more Life will also keep you going. And there's definitely no one-size-fits-all!
@Venvaneless
@Venvaneless Жыл бұрын
To any beginner who might find my comment: While resistences are important and will be even more important than life the further you go, don't make the same mistake I did: Like every beginner, it's pounded into your head, that you need to raise your resistances ASAP, but you will notice, that with every level, the resistances nodes are sitting much further away on the passive tree, this is the time you need to focus on your gear more and look for best items, to better those stats. Sometimes it's not worth it to waste 6 skill points only to get 8% fire resistance. Some good jewelry will do better and you can use the points you get for it to focus on damage. Also, depending on your class, you will get faster to one type of defence nodes than the others (like ES for witch, for example). Read what each differentiate from others and decide, which is better for your character and combat style.

@@salendrak The controls have always felt a bit clunky, and after Diablo 4 they feel even more so. I tried switching to an xbox controller, which worked flawlessly on D4 but on PoE there were issues picking up loot. Ive always loved the concept of the massive passive skill trees in POE but its layout has always seemed daunting and confusing, im not someone who likes to follow build guides, i like to discover and make them up as i go and PoE makes it hard to play that way. There arent really good tool tips on the nodes, so of them have words that i dont know what they mean and theres no in game way ive found to quickly reference what a particular ability does in detail. Finally and perhaps the biggest reason i lose steam is that the world feels somewhat lifeless. The quests arent very engaging, and the gameplay seems to basically just be find a big group of mobs and aoe it down, loot and repeat. Which is fun in small doses but can get stale.

Defiantly learned I didn't need to sell all my junk. I blame Diablo. Also, thought vendor recipes were just 'a few things' .... no its a whole damn kit your self out early. So thanks for that. Makes me wonder if I'll find use for all my identify scrolls and orbs of augmentation... i'm sure I will. I also like how you reinforce this is preferred, but hey, do your own thing. WITHOUT the sass. In other games people will be like 'you can do what you want, but I'm just telling you this, the path I have, is superior.' That has done one of two things, cause my O.G. founders of American blood to boil and say 'I'm throwing your tea in the harbor' and two, just rebel...cuz...i hate meta's. Edit: well, I guess not all the recipes work...but there's enough according to the wiki to let you safely play around with what you want and don't want in gear. That's way better then usual crafting/trading where its 'here's this item AND the next thing you pick up is so superior that you don't want it.'

I mean why can't the game also auto target and auto cast the correct skill to kill enemies for me? I shouldn't have to look at an enemy and decide the best way to kill it. In that vein, the game should also decide to just equip the most OP skills automatically. I shouldn't have to think about how to gear my character. The game should do it for me. Also if the game could make sure that my defenses are perfect for each situation I encounter that would be great. But wait, why should I have to sit at my computer to play at all? The game should play itself when I don't have time. I shouldn't have to think about oh, if I go to work today then I can't play POE, but if I stay home to play POE, then I won't get paid. If the game just played itself for me then I wouldn't have to make these kinds of decisions. I sure hope when I get home I have a maxed out super OP end game ranger and my wife has my preferred dinner ready without even soliciting my opinion. Noob question, how do I open the hi window that shows the skill gems vertically with the supporting gems to the right?
@salendrak
@salendrak Жыл бұрын
Go to Options, UI tab, then scroll down to the Items section, and make sure the "Support Gem Utility Popup" is turned on with a check mark. Thereafter, whenever you are hovering over an unequipped support gem (included in a vendor window) it will show you which of your equipped active skill gems can be supported by the support gem.

Tried playing POE, But the last time (Several Years ago) I played It by Act 3 the game started stuttering like crazy...
@salendrak
@salendrak Жыл бұрын
Odd - is it still doing that? I've had graphical issues a time or two over the years, and I've always fixed it just by playing with the settings and maybe changing the graphical driver to or from their vulcan thingy.

is it normal that at the end of act 5, you are told that you failed and your defenses are reduced by 40%? is it part of the story... or is it actually possible to beat the last big boss ?
@salendrak
@salendrak 11 ай бұрын
Yup - that's normal. Basically you just make Kitava all mad and ugly looking, then he rage blasts the staff thingy, and Sin swoops down to rescue you. All scripted to be like that, every time!

It's true!! I was personally quite underwhelmed by D4 when I played one of their open beta weekends. Don't think I'll be spending a penny on the release version when I'm perfectly happy playing PoE!

I’m so stuck on chapter 2 act 6 things are just one banging me left right and centre. I’m level 51 but I can’t process I have no idea what to do. Do I need to farm and level up in a past area or get better gear. I still have 5 or 6 level refunds to use to help me.

How are your resistances? Do you have at least a 4-link for your main damage skill? Feel free to post a link to your character and I can take a look at it and see if I have any specific thoughts 👍

I would really like to get into this game, i have tried numerous times, but no one can just explain the first 10 hours of the game in simple ways to me. Why is my inventory so small? Why can I only pick up 5 to 6 big items at the start of the game? What must i loot? must i go back to town every time im full on inventory? There is not gold? Ok so its like a salvage system with vendors giving me salvage items that will probably be useful later? how do I know what is useful? Again I really want to get into PoE being burned out by diablo, but this game makes it very difficult for new players to get into.
@salendrak
@salendrak Жыл бұрын
It definitely has a steep learning curve! It took me a while to get past the loot hoarding that many players fall prey to, but once you start to understand that the vast majority of loot isn't even worth spending a split-second looking it, your life in the game will be much better! Oh - and definitely get and use a loot filter!

Campaign - yes. Endgame - probably not, except for a few specific builds and/or players that have a lot of knowledge and currency.
