extravagant overbuilt elevator
@kevinfermin89075 жыл бұрын
So pretty much a glorified elevator, but since it's not you need to pay for staff on the top and the bottom and in the tram to operate it.

@@trainrover Again? What? Have you ever even been to this part of town? Pretty much all the post-2010 towers, of which the vast majority of SOMA consists, have generous podiums and/or tapered tops to let in plenty of light. They basically stretched the buildings upward to let more light in and make the whole place feel more open. Plus the new transit center occupies a giant lowrise part of SOMA and has a green rooftop park. Compared to the Financial District or even the older midrise districts in SF, SOMA has more sunlight even though it accommodates a ton more people. I'm all for constructive criticism, but this is just nonsense. If anything, we should force future construction to be more like this area of the city vs the older forms where you get less light even though there's less density!

@@TohaBgood2 well, suit yourself at being as constructive as perceivable about Corporateria's deconstructions, but d o bear in mind your creed becoming that of a disappearing calibre..!

Not gonna lie, they should've just built an elevator. A gondola is good for those crazy hills at Coit Tower

The irony is real.

I think there IS an elevator inside the center itself. The gondola is just for tourists or for first timers.

An extravagant waste of money. I bet it doesn’t last too. Also, am I the only one who thinks the transit center is really ugly? And how about not commercializing it with the Salesfarce name?
@derrickw30215 жыл бұрын
What a waste of money ! A gondola that really gives you no view of the city just to take people up to the rooftop park . Why didn't they just put a damn elevator there .

I think there is a normal elevator in the transit center...

There are two separate elevators and a bank of escalators. There are also stairs. This is just one more way to get up to the rooftop.
@TohaBgood22 жыл бұрын
This is more of a tourist attraction. The Transit Center itself has a full compliment of elevators, escalators, and stairs to comfortable carry the entire mass of people that want to get to the rooftop park. This gondola is purely "decorative." You can argue whether it was needed as a tourist attraction, but in terms of utility it was never a cost -or efficiency feature to begin with.
Huh? What are you even talking about? This whole area is pretty much spotless at all times. Were you thinking about the Tenderloin maybe?

@@trainrover The corps are a necessary evil. People can generate more prosperity when they work together. Non-profits are corporations too. It's just a name for a particular type of labor organization. Not saying we shouldn't push the corps for more worker power and a more democratic workplace in general, but what does this have to do with the conspicuously absence of "trashiness" in this part of town? Like, literally, you're saying that one of the cleanest part of town is "trashy". What does that even mean then? Do your words have entirely random meaning that has nothing to do with reality?

@TohaBgood22 жыл бұрын
Salesforce has pretty much zero to do with this project. They just paid for the naming rights, and even that is primarily a subsidy to the city because the CEO is a native son of SF and a major SF booster. They already have the Salesforce Tower naming rights, they really didn't need another named building a mere 10 ft away from their HQ tower.
