Hi Dave, you have changed my life. I don't live in the US but I love your way of thinking. Stay away from debt, live below your means and work hard. I listen to you when I feel pressured or demotivated. Thanks you.

@@jimmymcgill6778 I don't know what the couple is going to do, but the point is when Dave said they could do it in a year, they could if they followed what he teaches, which is to go bananas and work extra jobs and cut spending and make the debt pay off a big focus. It is certainly possible to do, but I understand how at first it may have seemed like there just wasn't enough money, and at first it probably seemed like taxes weren't being taken into account.

I think Dave didn't understand her ask. She should minimize her -required- payment (through IBR) and then throw everything above that in principal. If she doesn't use IBR, her -required- payment would be much higher than it would be on IBR, and that would mean more of her monthly resources would be going towards interest than it would under and IBR plan.

This guy is a joke. My son and daughter owe almost $90k each! They were expected to pay $1000/mo coming out of college. Neither can find a job that pays enough for both live and pay Sallie Mae. In fact, they can’t afford even rent! So all these loans got them was debt. No benefit to all that hard work and debt. Now my son is suicidal because he knows he’ll never be able to live on his own or support a family. Not go on vacation? What vacation? He can barely afford to eat. It’s not that cut and dry. People still say they have student loan debt like it was something forced on them or it is a result of bad luck. They took the loan, be a grown up and stop constantly complaining and pay it off. If it gets forgiven, all the better. Yes, it is unfair the high amounts but by nobody held a gun to their head. I just came back from the grocery store and if bread was $15 a loaf I wouldn't buy it even though I am out. Why is this any different?
