I like my capri pants. We have hot summers where I live and I no longer like wearing shorts when I go out. Our afternoons are usually very windy and dresses and skirts can quickly end up around my waist. Capri's stay put, keep me from sticking to leather seats, and they me stay cool.

Right. I like wearing cute dresses a few inches above the knee at 65YO, so I invested in different colored tights that I shortened to the same length as my dresses. This way I don't have to worry about the little mishaps you mentioned. You might get a bit hot but I have been fine because I invested in cotton fabrics.

I agree with everything. The only thing I would disagree with is thinking these style missteps are the sins of the older woman. I actually see more of these styles in younger/midlife women. I’m 70, old, and very stylish. So are most of my friends. So maybe more focus on the frump and less on being old.

So here's the thing . . . I agree with almost all of your points, but here in the US I think you'll have a hard time banning capris. I lived in central Florida for 30 years. There, if a woman left her house, other than for her job or a wedding, she was in capris and a 3/4 sleeve tee shirt. Often, the shirt was a bright tropical print. Any walk of life, any budget, from Walmart to the highest end of posh, this was the "uniform" for grown women - me included. Five years ago I moved to southern California, where I thought people were very fashion conscious, and found the same uniform was popular here. It's HOT here. Sometimes even too hot to sit down in shorts. To avoid the sun burning a hole in our thighs or the seats burning the back of our legs, we'll be wearing our capris. Don't look. And yeah, yeah, we know about crop pants and wide leg linens. But most of the time we'll be in capris. I do respect your opinion, though.

I live in the South also and capris are the go to for times when shorts are too casual or long pants are simply too hot. They look really fashionable with the correct time of shoe, also suited for the occasion.. sneakers for more casual occasions and cute sandals or flats for those that aren't casual. As far as bold prints, well, I do love Lily Pulitzer.

I loved the cold shoulder look when it first came out in a very tasteful, quiet manner. However, I found the market became way-y-y oversaturated with the look - in fact, it was hard to find a top, dress etc. that didn’t have it, even sweaters and blazers! It was done on styles and silhouettes that did not flatter the original vision. I think that killed it.

So true about bras. For decades I wore sports bras, but recently I switched to Playtex support bras. My back feels better and my shoulders don't hurt anymore. Clothes look better, too. Oversized ridiculous earrings are frumpy, too.

Well I love cold shoulder. They cover all that needs to be covered whilst helping to keep cool. The dress she was wearing did not cover bingo wings,as she stated and I thought it was frumpy. It is all a matter of opinion and mine and hers differ. I am in my 70s and will wear what I like. Girls! Huh!

Agree with all your tips. As a senior who loves fashion, I have 3 pair of ankle length linen pants and 2 tee shirt dresse plus 1 pair of white cotton blend ankle pants.. I am in a super hot and humid climate. Im not going to wear capris but find it challenging to find clothing for pants. I have plenty of jeans in all styles but are too hot for our summers. Shorts are out of the question. Cant wear belts either. I have some light weight joggers for dog walks but not for nice outfits. Wish I could find flowy white cotton short sleeve dresses that do not need a belt.

I am over 60 and hate that cold shoulder tops on anyone, no matter what age. They are absolutely awful! I only wear small prints on my tops, never on pants though. Since I am only 5' 1" large prints would be bad for me anyway. Too overwhelming for a petite woman. Capris actually are longer on me because of my petite height. Some of the longer capris fit longer on me, hitting at the ankle. So....think about it, capri pants will fit longer on women under 5' 2"!!! and you shouldn't rule them out for short women like me! Yes, on an average or tall woman, they will cut you off at the widest part (at your calf)...but capris DON'T cut me off, because they are longer on me.

I've always preferred the look of a more fitted capri that isn't a "grabbing" legging. The outside of each leg has an open slit and they cover up legs that don't look good in shorts. My legs aren't my best feature. I'd put them on my girl (boys have the longer shorts as well) for playing as going down a hot slide at the park can burn your skin! Living in Southern California or any hot climate, I've worn them and love the cool(ness) and cover! I do wear a simple polo shirt or light weight top with them and cute sandals. I see that other comments agree with me😊❤

I'm going to suggest that capri length pants, yoga or regular capris, are flattering on some people. I'm petite and very thin, muscular legs. I have a lot of definition and shape in my legs. While I don't wear them often, I do have a black pair that are great for a summer picnic or casual brunch. I love flowy, summer dresses but have a significant autoimmune disease that makes wearing one difficult at best. Capris work for me.

Your clothes should skim your figure and gently hug in all the right places. Tailored clothing can make all the difference. I definitely swear by getting regular bra fittings and making sure the bust sits level at the middle line of your upper arms. My friend is a 44J and she taught me that trick.

You are so right ... what do you think about a black denim mom shorts, loose fit, with ends that look like cutted with a scissor? Mine is from CK, Levis has them too. I'm slim and tall. And I love these shorts when walking the dog, at home or in holiday. I combine it very pure with classic T-shirts and neutral colors, flipflops, Birkis or dad sandals. And when is matchy matchy? I am 73 and don’t and never have owned any of the items you mentioned. Not a conscious decision but I just did not like them. The first thing I ask myself when trying clothes on is whether they make me look fat (apologies to anyone who is offended by that word). If the item is slimming then I’ll probably buy it. Most frumpy looks tend to add weight so if you look for slimming items you are most likely avoiding wearing frumpy clothes. I find as I get older I want fewer clothes and am due a drastic wardrobe declutter to make my life easier. I think I have reached a point where once I used to buy three tops , I would now prefer to pay a little more for one and get a better fit. At the end of the day we are all different and have to find our own “style” but videos like this one are helpful to keep us on the right track. There is no magical combination which will make a woman of 60, 70, 80 or 90 look good but I think “elegant simplicity” is what we should aim for. Most of all we must feel comfortable in our clothes and dress for our lifestyle and where we live. If I lived in Florida, for example, I would see the value of capri pants but I have no need of them for the average English summer! Rightly or wrongly, our clothes choices say a lot about us - be sure you are sending out the right message.

I disagree about the capri. It does depend on the shape of your legs. I know everyone says ditch them, but really evaluate your knees. Nothing worse than an older woman with short shorts on, like a 20 something, but with saggy knees.

Try thrift stores. They have trousers and jeans from several “trends,” and sometimes one finds the style one desires. I like jeans from times when slightly longer lengths were “in.” The one thing to note is that, due to vanity sizing, going back in time also means going up in size. My current 10/12 is a 2010s 12/14, and a 90s 14/16. Maybe not always that dramatic, but sizes definitely trend upward.

As a woman in my late 30s, i wear not all but a lot of things that this woman said would aged, but i still get I.D. on the regular, so my opinion is as long as you like it what does it matter? Remember as long as you're young at heart and walk with confidence, it's all you need. Also vintage is still a style too. The main thing to help you look younger is a healthy balanced diet, swap tea and coffee for water and keep hydrated. Also swap the day to day make-up for a nice skincare routine, save the makeup for special occasions. A bit of exercise will help you feeling young as well

Don't talk bad about crocs, just because you think they are terrible doesn' nessessarily mean, it's true. There are no more comfortable shoes, and I love wearing them, of course I don't wear them when I go out, but if I want to walk comfortably on foot in summer, crocs are the best shoes for that. And in winter I wear them as slippers at home, my feet love crocs, sorry ❤

When the cold shoulder tops came out, i jumped with glee! Yay, a sleeve that covered my fat upper arms and the shoulder cut out that showed some skin. And then they became too popular! You know when something is showing up everywhere in the midwest--iys already on its way out! Too bad! The flutter sleeve on your top isnt long enough to hide any jiggley bits! It has to be closer to the elbow to hide upper arm fat or jiggle. Good tips otherwise. I never did like capris.

Agree with these also. Although I see the practicality of capris over shorts (thigh burning on sitting), I think that like skinny jeans, they are best suited to women in very small sizes...maybe size 6 and below. If you have a larger fanny, they're going to emphasize that because they then lead down narrowly to a wide calf.
