Liz is definitely racist here, but that was the point of her character. She likes to think of herself as this liberal, open-minded, progressive person, but she has biases and prejudices, some of which she’s aware of. There was one episode where she confessed that she would tell everyone she voted for Obama when she actually voted for McCain. But there are other prejudices she’s not aware of or denies, and that’s the point. She is far from perfect and not just in her love life, but in her character. We see that also in the episode where she attends her high school reunion and realizes she was the class bully.
