October silver. The river was constantly rising when regular visiting anglers Shirley and Steve paid us their most recent visit, in October. Thankfully the wind wasn't too bad, with constant gusts to 45mph! Loch Ness is a massive natural filter, around 23 miles long, a mile and a half wide and 740 feet deep! That ensures that the river always runs clear and when I say clear, I mean crystal. As a ghillie, it makes a huge difference when the anglers can use either a left or right top hand, as dictated by the prevailing wind, in order to deliver the fly safely to the right spot. As you can see in this video, Shirley covered as much of the upper beat that could safely be fished from the boat and both banks, before she eventually made contact. Absolutely delighted to be netting such a clean fish, so late in our season and I think Shirley was quite pleased too. Happy days ;)

Steve says you’re a bit of a juggler Shirley, I think there’s definitely a bit of a magician there too, pulling a silver fish out a black hat was special, I never ever saw Tommy Cooper manage that one! Thank you both for all your efforts when you’re up here fishing, it was definitely a tough season this year. Beautiful Salmon Shirley! Well done! Cameron, I concur, looks like a fresh fish to me...the coloration is just too bright for a seasonal resident salmon...The body of your video presentation is devoid of commentary, brilliant! Credit where it’s due Steve, that little fly of yours was exactly what was required. Shirley left no spot uncovered and you just know that with her casting abilities, she’s always going to get a pull from a fish but no-one could have predicted a fish that clean! Hard to believe that Shirley’s only three ahead Steve, I’ll get Grant to check with VAR 😂🤣Congratulations to you both, it was definitely a tough season 🙏❤️👍🏻
