First time watching your videos, I just SUBSCRIBED after less than (2) minutes... That is my favorite stretch of water to practice my " FLOSSING " Technics.. K I D D I N G!!! I've NEVER fished it, but I live less than 15 minutes away. You are perhaps the most HAPPY GO LUCKY guy that I've viewed. I will continue to enjoy future videos. THANKS

LOL oh man, Paul, you put a huge smile on my face, then got my jaw to drop, then brought back the smile... I appreciate the comment! Getting feedback and being able to interact with you guys is one of my favorite parts. Thanks for the subscription, I will do my best to keep the videos coming. Definitely give that spot a try in the future, especially during the summer and anytime that there is a strong run on the river.. Steelhead can be targeted just to the right of the area (upriver in the riffles) during winter months. Thanks again, I look forward to hearing how things go for you

Nick Thorn - Thanks Nick, there are a lot of those out there who definitely don’t want everyone else being successful as well, but as I’ve said before, it’s a passion we all share, and to be a “tight lipped snob” about it isn’t cool.. I appreciate the feedback Nick and am glad to know you are back at it.

Great meeting you as well! You should have joined me. I'm always up for company when fishing, especially in that lower hole. If you get a couple people in there it gives the fish less places to go and they will usually strike a line. Good to see a little activity in the water..

When you are using spinners do you tie direct to the mainline or do you have a lighter leader connected to a swivel in case of snags?
@AnglingAddictsPNW5 жыл бұрын
Typically I'm using braided line, so I will use a swivel and then a lighter leader and will tie directly to the leader. If you are using a mono/fluoro main line, you can tie directly to the spinner but I've always preferred a swivel or something to avoid line twist, though spinners already have a swivel I've noticed that there is still potential for line twist without a swivel. I use really small swivels that are rated for 30lbs
@marcusmackin43035 жыл бұрын
I do the same thing, but seen people do otherwise so I was just curious. I have 30lb braid on my reel. What leader are you using?
@AnglingAddictsPNW5 жыл бұрын
Marcus Mackin - ya man there are multiple ways, really just what you prefer. I still switch it up depending on what rod and reel I’m using. I have nothing against fishing straight mono or fluorocarbon or using a double uni knot in place of a swivel. I almost always run 30lb braid, it allows for multiple uses and depending on the water conditions I will swap from 12lb-20lb My most typical being a 20lb fluorocarbon 12lb if it’s crystal clear

Are you gonna be out Sunday morning? There’s a homeless guy that lives in his van in the park across the street from me. I’ve been taking him/teaching him how to fish. He is SUPER stoked but neither of us have caught anything in awhile. Hopefully this rain will help. I’m thinking about starting at Oxbow and working our way down on Sunday morning. What are your thoughts?
@AnglingAddictsPNW6 жыл бұрын
TheWallman456 I was looking for this message lastnight.. That is really cool of you to do man. Unfortunately I won’t be around on Sunday but can always try to point you in the right direction.. but definitely start as high as you can and work your way down.. if it’s decent daylight, fish deeper and near boulders and any sort of structure or cover.. there are chinook around and they don’t move a whole lot during the middle of the day.. and use small presentations if you are using a bobber and jig. As for spinners I highly recommend #5 blue fox vibrax
@TheWallman4566 жыл бұрын
AnglingAddictsPNW There was a tree blocking the boat ramp so we ended up below the bathrooms . Water was muddy but I got a bobber down on eggs but it got off. Rain got too hard so we left after 2 hours. We DID have a lot of fun. I make my own spinners, mostly 4 and 4.5 ... a few 5s. I use R and B components. The torpedoes and the ones that look like blue fox. I’ve caught more fish on those than any other lure/bait.

TheWallman456 - A bobber down is a good start, especially with having to fish below where you would have preferred. Glad to hear you guys had fun, in the end that’s what it is all about. I love making lures! As I’m sure you know, it’s relaxing and something fun to do when you are not out on the water. And I always take the time to reply to comments, considering I absolutely love getting feedback from you guys.

Nice video, I'm a new fisherman and don't much where to fish any other good spot on Sandy or the Clackamas? Thanks
@AnglingAddictsPNW6 жыл бұрын
Hey Pablo, welcome to the world of fishing!! There are a lot of good spots along both rivers.. the best thing to do is get out there and explore. Its really hard to say where a "good spot" is because those are always dependent on the conditions, time of year, and things simply just change. The parks are usually the best place to start but unless you have a parking pass you are having to pay $5 every time and that adds up quick. If you can find any spot that pulls off the road and has access to the river, I'd fish it and it just may turn into one of YOUR new spots

So frustrating I fish this river hard and can’t catch a damn thing on a spinner I must be doing it wrong or you are really lucky.
@AnglingAddictsPNW6 жыл бұрын
Ricardo Simmonds - do you or have you had any luck with a bobber and jig? When I fish spinners, I almost always cast upriver a little and my line even gets caught in the current and drags my lure down river, if it’s done right, your lure will be further down in the water column and you can basically get your lure to go down river, while it’s facing you and with good action on the spinner... if that all makes sense.. EVERY salmon that I have hooked so far with a spinner this year has been done that way and they usually hit it while it’s still up river or straight out from me. Your chances of snagging increase but you chance of hooking a fish may increase as well.. it takes some practice but it has definitely been working for me.. I do feel as though I have some luck on my side lol, though I put in countless time and effort learning these rivers and how things change with different runs, conditions, and the time of year. Keep at it, keep learning and things are bound to change for ya
@rickysimmonds26816 жыл бұрын
AnglingAddictsPNW only tried that for steelhead but yeah I get it you are swinging the spinner I just can’t get a damn salmon to bite. I caught two Kings at dodge park twitching but haven’t gotten bit since and that was weeks ago so I’m due for a tug. I make my own spinners with hoochie skirts like you but I just haven’t found a hot fish willing to hit one. Hopefully this rain changes my luck I just gotta keep at it.
@AnglingAddictsPNW6 жыл бұрын
I had some good success last year with the twitching jig and the strikes are always exciting. I hooked a King yesterday with the bobber and jig and a tiny chunk or roe that was leftover from someone. If they are being timid with the spinner then id definitely recommend trying the bobber and jig (either solo or with additional bait) and hit those deeper channels and pools where the water current obviously slows... mine have all been within 20 feet of me when I've hooked them. Thats awesome that you make your own spinners as well, it definitely saves money, im still going to buy Bluefox but the rest will be made. Im hoping the rain changes things as well!! I should be back out on the water shortly and hopefully back on some fish.. I'm definitely looking forward to Winter Steelhead.... Thanks for the feedback Ricardo, its always appreciated
@rickysimmonds26816 жыл бұрын
AnglingAddictsPNW Yeah I love twitching definitely one of my fav ways to fish for salmon. I will have to try that bobber and jig because I am not getting bites with chunks of roe. Blue foxes are too good to give up that blade feels so nice in the water and it rings the dinner bell. Hopefully we will find some spinner chasing chrome after a few days of good rain and get some on the homemades I still haven’t yet! I’m happy to talk with you great videos I’m subbing rn! Tight lines might see you on the water sometime.
