Hi Chris. Your series of videos is brilliant. You do a good job of keeping it an honest beginner's view and introduction to salmon fishing. Nobody ever masters salmon fishing and everyone will give you different advice. My advice is to cover as much water as possible. I've noticed that you make a lot of casts repeatedly to the same area. If you're fishing a new water, and unless the ghille has suggested that you target specific areas, it is usually best to move downstream a couple of steps after each cast. Make your casts so that after every couple of steps downstream you are also casting to a point that's a couple of steps further downstream than the previous cast too. That way your fly will be fishing the whole pool as you make your way down it. On rivers that you are fishing blind you will increase your chances of finding fish if your fly has passed through as much of a pool as possible.

Hi Truth Teller, thanks for the feedback on my channel. I will try to keep moving more in future but it's an old habit from a trout fisher, not easily broken 😉

Nice to see you back out with the big gun! Enjoyed that! Tight bit of driving and really nice looking water!! 👌😀 Ps At the the risk of sounding like the fly-polis, its 'calvin' shrimp! 😀👍 Cheers and Tightlines 🎣

Hi David, thanks for that, yes I am back on the Scandi Rod now right through until the end of May. I am thoroughly enjoying it too!! I think I might prefer it to the trout rod tbh! I love a 4x4 track anytime of the year, it feels like a great escape. Calvin shrimp....not Callum Shrimp! LOL. I just watched the video back and you are right - what a dunce!! You know what when I was talking about that fly I was really pleased because I thought I had remembered it correctly. Thanks for the support, all the best. Chris

Hi Stephen, yes I am but did you notice I called it Calum Shrimp not Calvin - another subscriber (David) noticed it - damn it, I thought I had got it right. I am using other flys too not just that one :) unfortunately I can't come up that week as I have an employee off on holiday so need to cover her work, otherwise I would be there in a flash. Thanks dude, Chris

Hi Chris why not invest in some casting lessons increasing your casting level single spey, double spey snake roll also it adds to the enjoyment of fishing

Hi Bruino, thanks that's a great suggestion!. I did get a casting lesson from an instructor called David on the Gordon Castle Estate when I fished on the Spey earlier in the year but I would love to get more skilled at the other types of casting. Thanks for support - it is much appreciated!!

Ah, the Wye.... Known for a good hatch of canoist vulgaris. Been there, done that and been mown down by the odd one!

thanks Graham! I haven't had anyone mow me down (yet), and 99% of the canoists have been really polite, the weekends were worst for traffic and noise. Thanks for subscribing and your support! Chris
