The thing about fascists is they often have good aesthetics. Like, the Junon Parade is a ton of fun too while being *more* explicitly fascist than anything else I’ve seen in the game. Cuz like, Aerith and Tifa look cute in their uniforms, your dorky soldier parade group needs your help, and the dommy mommy commander wants to win, so you get swept up in everything. It’s a really clever way of doing things imo. It uses your nostalgia, your excitement to see that moment, as a juxtaposition with the knowledge of what the parade actually represents.

Fascism is corporatism in decline, Shinra fits the term generally and follows many of the fascist tropes laid out by political philosopher Umberto Eco in his seminal text on the subject, “Ur Fascism.” Like, you have to be basically politically illiterate to miss the clear and purposeful similarities between Shinra and fascist projects of the past. Did you think all of their propaganda, the myth-making surrounding the ancients and co-opting of their past, the eugenics experiments, did you really think that was all an accident or coincidence? You must be a really passive media consumer.

Sound Track went full Namco Sound Team crazy here and I love it lol. And when you fight the final 2 harder enemies at the end of the escort, it cuts straight to the battle theme from the broken highway tunnel in Remake which also sounds very similar in genre.
