Supposedly she was not able to dance, and Miklos Rozsa expressed frustration in his memoir about that. In actual fact, she's ideal and her dance is perfect for its natural innocence. The great Brigid Bazlen, passed too soon. Superb scene, brilliant score and cinematography. Top class.

It seems a lot of people in the comments don't like her dance, which I can't understand because I love it! I've watched several Salome dances, from movies and live performances, and this one is in my top favorites. I think the dance is interesting, I especially like the first half. The actress is a perfect Salome, young and seemingly uncaring, frivolous, and toying in her dance. I really like her costume as well, the gold and tangerine color are beautiful paired with her raven hair, and mischievous seductive eyes! Although, I do also enjoy the Salome dances that incorporate thin, flowing and shimmery veils, and more traditional belly dancing.

Live performances where they actually strip completely naked down to the very last robe as Oscar Wilde's play/dance originally intended yes this was all Oscar Wilde's imagination and creation in the 19th century and has no Biblical or historical basis whatsoever but that it actually surpasses the on stage play performance is a hard sell. They have them on KZbin so based on the ones I've seen your assertion is kind of ludicrous but the actress did the best she could with what she had and it works for what it is which again has no bearing on actual history besides being Oscar Wilde's 19th century wet dream.

I mean, the king could have been maliciously compliant and still given her John the Baptist's head on a silver platter. She didn't specify he had to be dead. They could have brought a silver platter, put it on a table, and just had John lie on the table with his head on a platter for her to look at. It's still his head on a platter.

Yes and after seeing this fragment like 20 years ago i thought Salome wanted it herself. Herodias was a bitch. Her husband died and she married his brother Herod (i think he is son of the Herod who wanted to kill baby Jesus because that was said in a series about Mary. Early 2010s one. And there Herodias was a real pussy, knew that Mary is hiding something but didnt know what it was). And it was a very bad sin those times. But Herod liked Baptist and was upset that Salome wants his head.

This movie was from King of Kings, where actor Jeffrey Hunter played the part of Jesus. It is a very good movie. These biblical movies during this time, had the beautiful technicolor scenes and costumes as well as very well know A list actors and actresses. The Ten Commandments, Ben- Hur, Samson and Deliah, The Robe, Sodom and Gomorrah, David and Bathsheba, The Bible are movies we remember and watch over and over. Salome was used by her mother to be the beautiful seductress to captivate King Herod and he told her he would give her anything she asked for even to the half of his kingdom. Her mother, Herodias, hated John the Baptist for sternly rebuking King Herod and her publicly for their adulteress affair since she was still the wife of his brother who was still alive. King Herod was caught up in his lust for the sensual and beautiful princess Salome which meant that death would come to God’s faithful servant, John the Baptist.

@@brucemacmillan7128 .. The best Jesus movies are Jesus of Nazareth, and The Passion of the Christ.... To me, Ben Hur was one of the best movies ever made and The Ten Commandments.
@brucemacmillan7128
@brucemacmillan7128 3 жыл бұрын
@@aleciabjorlie3103 I never saw Mel Gibson's torture porn movie (aka The Passion), but I certainly know a lot about it. Jesus of Nazareth was pretty good I suppose, but all Jesus portrayals are at least somewhat suspect, considering how much baggage the character comes with. 2000 years worth. One of the main reasons Ben Hur was pretty good is cuz the Jesus character wasn't central to the movie and thankfully never spoke. Tho I certainly wished that Balthazar character would've shut his yap. Boy was he annoying. They should've crucified him too. As for Ten Commandments, the cheese factor in that movie was pretty massive. There is no comparison between Ben Hur and TC. TC was rather a joke by comparison. Anyway, I'm an atheist, so don't expect me to take any of this stuff seriously.
@UniMakesStuffs
@UniMakesStuffs 3 жыл бұрын
@@brucemacmillan7128 I mean, it IS an old movie....cheesiness was all what these old movies were. Also, you have to take into account when they were creating the Jesus character for these movies, it was account for what was MADE back then. He is SUPPOSE to be pretty, I mean, taken into account what they're basing the source material from (not to mention, I suspect the audience is a mix for Christian based and the average movie goer trying to enjoy a epic story). Also Ben Hur is a WAY different than TC and King of Kings. Same scales of epic movies yes but DIFFERENT stories. Ben Hur was also based on BEN HUR...not Jesus of course. It's kind of like how Siddhartha is (basically a story about a character who finds his own spiritual enlightment yet follows parallel events with the Buddha).

@@billmurray7473 It's a good thing Miss Taylor wasn't chosen for the part of Salome. That would have been a serious case of miscasting, because Salome was supposedly in her teens at the time that John The Baptist was imprisoned by King Herod. Liz Taylor would have been too old for the role.

Its certainly tragic that in many instances the inner beauty is nowhere near as great as the outer beauty. I wonder if the actual Salome was that beautiful?
