If you think Salome's bad, wait'll you get a load of her uncle / stepfather. At a number of levels, I'm pretty sure he played a huge role in making her "horrible."

Both she and uncle-stepdad enabled each other, and Salome was just trying to survive that effed-up dynamic. Stunted as it was, still Jochanaan provided Salome with the possibility of an alternative, but their worldviews were tragically all too different.
