I have run 300km in Pulsar Trail Pros. Wide and chunky midsole doesn't offer that much agility or ground feel on tricky trails but on the other hand is pretty comfortable on hard packed trails and roads. Upper is great! Lacing with the pocket, collar, heel and midfoot lockdown are spot on. Toe box could be foot shaped though...

That mono upper with lacing system is wild. Great review Steven. If it preformed well for you in that race that says a lot. Would love to see the comparison between the two Pulsars.

That narrow medial arch scares me with my Sasquatch width feet. They help with walking on Canadian snow but they are terrible for shoe selection. Thanks for the review!
@UltraTrailSteven2 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you have wide feet, these prob wouldn’t work. Not sure if they have them in a wide. Thanks!

My go to trail shoes have been the Salomon Sense Ride for years. In the Salomon lineup they are a little bit more accomodating than most shoes. That being said, I recently decided to give the Norda 001 a try. They are a Canadian company (based in Montreal) and that shoe, while more expensive, is amazing! Even though they are more expensive, the materials used should make them much more durable than most shoes. Anyway, maybe worth looking into them! The fit is much more accomodating than the Salomon Pulsar Trail (have not tried the pro) without being "altra wide" either.

Nice review - looking forward to the comparison. Love my Trail Pros and have got 400km+ in mine already.... Only minor issue I have is with the low quality / very thin insole that sometimes slips around.

Geartrade had a pair for $46. My problem is the one piece upper. My trails are super technical, thought I would die in speed goats-haha. For Ga the normal pulsar might be to hot. Have a pair of sense pro 4’s but about 1/2 size long. But no size up/down in these. Wish Salomon could get the sizes right

I hope they workout for you! I am not a fan of one piece uppers.

Thanks for the review! It’s tricky to get a good idea of which of all the new plated trail shoes is any good and may work for me personally… My favorite trail shoes of the past year have been the Sense Pro 4 and the S/Lab Ultra 3. They beat the Ultraglide for almost all types of runs for me! Considering picking up the Pulsar Trail or the Pulsar Trail Pro. Would you advice one over the other based on the above preferences? I intend to use them for longer runs and maybe races.
@UltraTrailSteven2 жыл бұрын
My favorite is the Pulsar Trail. It just fits my foot so perfectly and is one of the most comfortable uppers ever (a bit warm though). I did a mountain 100k in the Pulsar Trail and didn't have a single hot spot!

I own the Pulsar Trail and really like them, BUT grip is subpar, especially when wet, if slightly muddy the mud clogs for ages. So basically a nice weather shoe (breathibility is quite muted though) for medium technical as the grip on loose staff is also only so so. And I changed the quick laces for traditional laces and create a heel lock using the last hole for the Loop also (using same hole for "Out and back in", much better heel now. Maybe grip and breathability are better with the Pro, according to reviews the grip isn't. Just give me the upper and outsole of the Sense Ride 3 with the midsole of the Pulsar Trail and I will buy this shoe forever...
@UltraTrailSteven2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I’ve had good success with the grip on a variety of terrain and conditions.

@@UltraTrailSteven word is that the Salomon Contragrip is much more appreciated in US than here in Europe...quite a view critical voices on especially wet grip, not too bad but nowhere near Vibram, Continental..
@UltraTrailSteven2 жыл бұрын
@@Thefifaplayeryant interesting point! Definitely as grippy as the vibram megagrip, or even the lightbase.
