Thinking about buying the alpine version of these. I'm coming back to Salomon after a decade of other brands (mostly Euro) and picked up some s/lab genesis trail runners which really got me interested in their products again.

Interesting! I have not tried the alpine. The S/lab is a very good trail runner, I am actually testing them out now. The video should be out in the next upcoming months Let me know how it goes!

I also enjoy using Salomon lightweight shoes and need some new ones. The only thing I don't like is the end of the lace closure can stick out up to 5-10 cm and has in some cases gotten tangled in other things when I've used them. Tried covering them with the socks. It doesn't really make sense. Is there a solution to that.?

Yes Erik! I agree.. so you can actually get them Salomon X 4 ultra with normal laces. If I got these again I would get the regular laces. For a solution, I would try tucking the loop into the criss cross pattern of the laces to hide it. Thanks for watching!

Actually, the shoes have a pocket in the tongue, where you can stow away the laces. This is a reminder of the quality Salomon used to have. Two days ago I made my first hike with my new X Ultra 4, and it was embarrassing. The shoe makes the impression of a cheap Chinese copy of Salomon. First of all, they are asymmetric, the right shoe is tighter than the left one, the laces cut into the insteps, they are still hurting. There were hot spots on both small toes, the foot was slipping at the heels. I never had any of these problems with any Salomon, which I used to love, because of their great comfort. My last one was the X Ultra 3, which was the usual Salomon top quality. I made app. 150 hikes with them, and at the end they were still good, but started to have some wear down. There are lots of similar reports on the internet. I am done with Salomon and will move to Hoka.

Thanks for reply. It is important that I get some shoes that I know I can walk in for a long time and with good comfort, as I have to have the left heel raised by 1.5 cm. It is also important that they grip well on smooth ground and ascending terrain. Hoka has a very large selection and they are at the expensive end. Actually, the price doesn't matter as long as I get the right shoes!!! To be used here in Denmark and in the summer on holidays here in Europe. Are there other quality shoes that can be recommended??

@@erikmortensen1091 Hey Erik, Another option that may be less expensive is the Merell Moab 3 they are usually on sale most of the time under $150. They have really good grip and durability. The left heel raised by 1.5 cm is tough, I would recommend a good heel insert for that! Good luck looking let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for reply. Yes, I still use my Salomon shoes that have duct tape attached to them keep the sole… Been inside and google and the Merell Moab 3 looks interesting good sole and construction. They are priced here in Denmark at approx. 95-100 dollars so it is a reasonable price. Unfortunately, I haven't seen them in a shoe store so I could try them on. If I have to order them, do you know if they are small or large in size?? Can understand the GTX version is with Gore-tex. I am getting my left heel elevated at the shoemaker. It is quite expensive but I get a subsidy for it through my health insurance. Using insoles for the whole foot are quite expensive, costing approx. 60 bucks for a pair…. You have to understand I don't buy more shoes during the year because of the price… Update. I've seen your review of the Merell Moab 3 and can understand it's hiking boots but I want lighter hiking boots... It's for summer use, I have hiking boots for autumn and winter use.

Kinda tight is a nice understatement 😉 They strangle the instep...my feet are still hurting after a 15 km hike two days ago. With my old Salomon I did not even get the idea, that this could be a problem. Salomon was sold to a Chinese enterprise, and it seems that all the know-how got lost. Somehow, you can see and feel quality. You touched an old Salomon and it just felt great. This new one gives the impression of cheap plastic.

All Salomon contra grip soles are terrible on wet rocks and roots Any reviews saying otherwise are just plain false They’re all very poor I repeat very poor The best grip in soles are in this order VJ , continental , Vibram mega , Scarpa .. don’t believe any reviews that say Contra grip is good

@ It's not confortable at all, in fact I think that these shoes are not ment to be taken on any kind of hikes or to be worn for more than an hour. The front mesh is so thin and it lets in all the elements and because of that they can't be worn in cold weather at all, only in the summer. After less than a year the sponge inside wall behind the heel ripped and now it creates a hot spot when worn... I will never buy this brand again.
