I just LOVE your gnomes so much they are awesome together! (Oh and gnome has a silent G too so it's just 'nome' :-) yes, English is a silly language sometimes -it just doesn't make sense hehehehehe! . I want to make a whole village of gnomes now! They are delightful. Very good of you to repeat a few times the disclaimer and to be aware and to promote the safety in using chemicals to your audience. You are such a good advisor, especially to new potters who do not have a history of pottery. Oh and another idea - I cover all of my boards with a canvas material and staple it with stainless steel staples so they don't rust, to the board on the edges. It works very well, Mika, and doesn't draw the moisture out as much as the board would Maybe you could try it :-) I'm loving discovering your channel and your projects.

Thank you so much Linda! You are so kind! I don’t know if you have seen Ismo Leikola on youtube. He’s a Finn like me and he has a few great stand- ups about language and he has one about the silent letters in English. (Please look him up its actually funny) Thanks for the nome, now I (k)now Its a silent letter , 😀 . How about when you cut your clay, doesn’t it harm your canvas? I sometimes get frustrated when it dries too fast, so maybe a canvas would be great! Cheers!

Oh, I will look the Finnish guy up and let you know how he is :-) as for the canvas, i use the back of my knife to cut and I don't tear the fabric.

Very interesting demonstration with an electric kiln! Yes, salt is very volatile and HCL is given off. Can you advise how the internal kiln wall looked like after the salt glaze firing, please? Thank you

Hello and thank you for your comments! We are a few people in the same studio and we've been using this method for a long time. I have not seen any damage to the kiln walls or the heating elements. The soda does'nt turn in to chlorine gas like in the normal salt glazing. Still, I don't advise anyone, it's at your own risk.. Cheers from a cold Finland! /Mika

@@clayeasy I see. Your title stated Salt firing. Am sure you are aware of Soda and salt firing are 2 different thing.

@@xm3364 Thanks again! Yes, I think the ”Salt glazed” might be wrong in this case! The crystals and the feel of it is soo close to salt, but come to think of it , it’s Soda! Thanks for your comment and correcting me! Cheers/ Mika

Hello sir Can I use nichrome wire for ceramic cup making
@clayeasy

Hello there! I can not answer that question, I have never tried and not heard of this. It sounds interesting though. But be careful , the melting temperature is 1250C for the wire and it might break or ruin your kiln. Cheers! Mika

Hello, there is a special wire for firing in kilns. It comes with different rates of temperature for example, one wire for kilns can only be used for earthenware firing (low firing wire) but the kemper wire or a higher wire is for up to porcelain firings so up to 1300. The pottery shop will have some of this wire and the label will tell you what firing you can use it for. When you fire the wire, it will oxidise - go darkish,sometimes black -but you just use a metal file to clean it and it will come back a silver again. Hope that helps Anand.

Do you have any experience of salt glazing and electric kiln, maybe some other way?

Hello, Mika, Thank you for the video. Very cute boys you are making. In my opinion, it's not so dangerous for the kiln if you do it like that. There is no chlorine in the soda and you don't get chlorine gas. Thanks for subscribing to my channel. In 2007 I spent my holidays in the Swedish speaking part of Finland. My friend was from there and she had a small house, right by the water. A wonderful place. Greetings from Germany Frank

@@keramodi Thank you for your support Frank! Small world1 You probably stayed close to my hometown then ( Jakobstad). We are a few people who use the same kiln and use soda on small and big projects and it has worked out fine, so, yes, I think it's safe this way.. Do you also use soda?

@@clayeasy Not Soda but I used in an earlyer Life an Alkali frit (M1233) in combination with copper and iron like you. Your results are perfect and i will try it, too.

@@keramodi Great! Good luck with your test! I think stoneware and about 1200-1250 degrees gives the best result..
