Very informative video! I’m planning on using a 6 ounce cloth and EcoPoxy on a small rowboat I built using Glen-L plans. Does it matter which side of the cloth goes up and which side is down on the plywood?

Many thanks for this nice video, may I ask you what fiberglass type I can use to seal under waterline small holes ? I am going to fill them with epoxy and thickener but for more safety I would like to use fiber glass cloth also . Thank you

Great Video. I know this is related to boat, but I am working on classic car and there is a piece of metal rusted and I want to replace it with fiberglass instead of welding a new piece. which cloth and resin you recommend?
@Bakanelli Жыл бұрын
The strongest combinstion is epoxy + cloth that doesn’t have chopped strand matt (CSM). Use only 1 final layer of CSM on top to prevent print out of the fabric underneath and to ease fairing. If you will go the epoxy route also use epoxy based fairing and not bondo (which is polyester resin based). Good luck

“I don’t think an extra gallon or so of resin is a bad thing when it comes to the strength and integrity of the structural components of the boat” Adding to much resin can be a bad thing. Adding to much resin can cause the fibres to “float” and not bond together which will cause weakness. You don’t want a a lot of resin, you want enough to wet it so it bonds together. (Getting cardboard or a smooth wooden bench to paint it onto the glass works) If you use too much resin, use a roller to push the excess resin out along with your air bubbles. Clean with a rag and acetone. To keep your glassing bench clean (if not using cardboard) lay down strands of chop with resin over the top when finished, let it go hard. It will peel off as one and leave you a smooth working area the next time you use it.

Thanks for the video. What type of glass would you recommend for stingers in a 15' fiberglass v hull? The 1708 looks like the stuff I cut out. And how many layers do you recommend for adequate hull integrity?
