SC definitely won't be the game OG backers want. CIG needs new money coming in and the only way to do that is cater to mainstream gaming audiences. We already saw it happening with the introduction to skills (which will be expanded for sure) and the change to ship combat.

ownership doesn't mean it's just him working on them, though... Most of those 1200 people are definitely artists, animators, modelers, riggers, environment, lighting, etc. But when he says he owns something he means he's in charge of what happens with it and he requests tasks from other people to build it. Then what he's probably doing is configuration, testing, design and documentation, setting up test for QA...

So much of what is done in the name of immersion is immersion breaking lol. Others feel like the dev has a second life shard theyve maintained for 15 years. The one thing thats always sticks out immersion wise is being able to carry more ammo than 3 people irl in your backpack, but unable to carry 1/5 as many guns as i could irl.

Salvage will be huge. The most valuable reason to salvage won't be to hull scrape, it will be to board and scan for high quality and potentially extremely valuable t2+ ship components

everyone forgetting that you can craft ships with different materials, also upgrade ships with better materials... eventually... in 1.0 or later... so 2027-2030 or later. It wont just be components it will be upgraded hull materials too (durasteel t2+ vs regular steel t1). components will be huge once crafted/upgraded components get in-game. _Salvage is placeholder until then._

I get your points Mike on hull scraping and structural salvage being pretty minimalistic, but I see that as only one part of the salvage loop, you still have retrieval of components, weapons, fuel and ammo. I could easily see a Salvage scanner giving a read out of what components and weapons are on the ship, and their health levels, and also fuel and ammo amounts.

yeah they didn't consult anyone who's been in a drop ship, they don't consult subject matter experts for much of anything, it seems. They'd have more slack for not doing so if they didn't raise almost a billion dollars. How many subject matter experts can be retained for the price of that grim hex sign. Hell, put out a call for community volunteers, they'll do it for free cus they want the game to come out (and make sense). the "magic solutions" are only an issue because they spent so much time making everything hyper-realistic.

I agree with this direction as it makes sense! different suits should have different advantages and drawbacks.. also non compatibilities as you should be able to mix and match at will.. EG: Mining suit should have high & low tolerance to temperatures for instance but little to no defense against enemy fire. PS: There should be multiple kinds of Mining suites with all different advantages and disadvantages.

@25:10 the inventory system is NOT cool. Its ridiculously convoluted and cumbersome. I absolutely HATE it. Tabbed SAVED load outs in inv screen! I can change into it quickly (near a closet or something) if i have to pass through a customs gate where weapons and armor are not allowed. Tabbed inventory load outs in your hab, your ship, whatever. Even if it is a 10 second darkness animation while i "change:" outfits is more acceptable than what we have now.

On the armor swapping: I think the best would be a physical capsule, inside it a mannequin with the latest armor you were wearing if you died (or empty mannequin if you are wearing it right now) and a touch display with two buttons. One button for equipping the gear currently on the mannequin, the other to unequip current gear onto the mannequin. There would also be a compact menu to select another set to show on the mannequin, everything is 1 click or 2 if you swap gear. This way the whole thing looks epic, but doesn't need it's own room with dozens of mannequins, so you can have it on many more, smaller ships as well. When swapping the gear through the menu there would be an animation with the door of the capsule closing and then opening again with the new gear on the mannequin. So basically like the expensive rotating garages in crowded cities IRL. (By mannequin I don't really mean the plastic thing we have IRL, but just a skeleton or something modern to hang your gear on.)

For the pledge store armor “blueprints” they could make it so they can’t be upgraded or researched further than so that it is “locked” at tier 1 the base level to balance making the blueprints that are earned ingame be able to be superior when researched tier 2-3

Anything we say or do won't matter. They ll keep going divisive community by implementation because what they create only talk to one particular gaming type. Engineering, fuses redundancy, burning components up is a total drag to everyone but not to very truly few that dreamt to be engineers, then even less who expect engineers to be the way they make it,yet, all of us are bound to it or lose. Same goes for medic,cooks, rear ass turrets where nothing ever happen, and probably more. Not helping are blind knights always in defense of the poor and defenseless cig princess at the mercy against her will and held by evil criticizing community dragon. Server meshing was and still is a major stone for star citizen. Optimization is done routinely and is another stone and step. Any gameplay implementation without root core, then sorry to everyone for bursting your bubble but it is a poor choice in domain of MMO. This means that, next major stone is nothing else but player controlling a series of npcs at hand, 4, 5, maybe 7 npc with defined roles controlled face2face as well as mobiglass or ship intercom is THE ROOT where subsequent gameplays lays upon for proper ship management. I literally hate CIG guts pushing players grouping for few years now like its a feature they invented. That above and alone is a divisive element, not the fact that the root complement should exist upon gameplay branches can latch onto.

I have PTSD just from the MSR second exit promise. Another ship they built before gameplay and a promise made 3 years ago that it would receive a second exit. Another promise that will never happen! MSR does not have its inventory.

@@corvoadam5598 Pledge items get blueprints, not ships. And even then, who cares if he did have the blueprints for a Javelin? To upgrade a Javelin blueprint would be crazy hard, and to actually make the Javelin will take months. It used to take about three real life months to build ships in Allods Online, and those were about the size of a Constellation or maybe a Carrack at most. It will probably take about three to six real months to craft ships the size of a Javelin.

straight up ppl need to stop buying these ships at release. it just buys them more time of less flak for a month or so. get the damn game fixed of stupid bugs ( that are prolly left in to keep calling it an alpha) like not highliting mineables properly, doors not opening, lifts not working. Get some gameplay for ships that have been out for years.... if noones buyng the ships they would soon get thier finger out. Time perspective according to CIG it is something between cradle and grave, in human years! The only thing we can count on are all the ship sales that are always on time, no matter how F up the patch is. I would rather have them working on getting the tech demo to be playable and all year old bugs, like falling threw planets and elevators would be fixed. I dont really care about all the eye candy fluff, they focus on putting into the game, cause of marketing. Those are nice to have, but not need to have! Make POI´s you promised we can set our selves in starmap, short quantum jumps etc. instead.

Mining is the only game loop that for a brief time received regular updates and attention from the dev team. Every other game loop has been ignored for years, until cargo got updates. But bounty hunting, piracy, salvage, exploration, etc have all languished for YEARS.

These people are Director level -- they have Senior people underneath them to delegate work to and individual manage. They "govern" dependent and related areas of gameplay to help ensure those areas have a cohesive feel and gameplay experience.

They're crazy. And so are we for continuing to believe that this project will end, stabilize or whatever. 2025, we don't have single-player (not even with an interactive cinematic campaign like myst or riven😂) we don't have stability, the netcode is far from being stable, the game loops don't exist, the mechanics are incomplete or they need to be reworked them over and over again (like the rest of the elements), there will continue to be wipes until a hypothetical and future (very future) version 1.0, hundreds of critical bugs that ruin any simple attempt to ""play""... Have you played sea of thieves? Have you tried to sail a boat with 5 friends? (even a small boat with 2 or 3 players) it's fun because of the chaos that ends up being generated when each player tries to control their position and functions... but it always or almost always results in catastrophe (sea of thieves is fun because of its approach). If you want to try something similar but as a simulator, please try WolfPack, a submarine simulator where you have to cooperate with 4 other players to control a WWII submarine, eliminate certain targets and escape without being detected. It's a very complicated task and the battle game is quite slow. Now imagine a Polaris type ship against other small ships or even other capital ships... (yes I know dynamic meshing will support and make possible this to happen online, EVEN HYPOTHETICALLY) just imagine the terrible chaos of players in each Polaris in a battle against many other ships... please... even if they instantiate these battles (of course they will) the experience is not going to be good... it sounds amazing and wonderful in our minds, but no, it is something that is not going to work out not only for technical reasons, but because the base concept is not feasible and it is an unbearable Gameplay, not even they know where all this is going... that is SC... they have always said it, "it is a constant..." it is never going to end... (why can't it end, it is impossible). I love the project, I love the way it looks, but realistically... The future gameplay it's a castle in the sky.... either they simplify ship management in PU and separate battles by instantiating them or hosting them on separate dedicated servers and limiting the amount of ships per match and by ranks or this development will NEVER end and none of us will see it close to ending in this lifetime. The project needs to be finished, stabilized, polished and PU REDESIGNED so that it is fun and contains an endgame that gives players endless hours like any MMO. (This would imply many more years of development...) At this point I think there are only 2 options left for CR... either throw it all away and sell the company to the Chinese and have them make a cryptocurrency casino MMORPG like an "entropia universe") or let it die from wear and tear (this is already happening). Too much money invested, too much time invested, too much work from too many people, fewer and fewer players interested in the project and vague and improvised plans that only lead to absolute catastrophe, frustration of players, developers and a diminished, poisoned and divided community, not to mention the poor image we have in the eyes of the general gaming scene...😢

57:03 I do really hope that what they mean is most suits will have very limited EVA capability, and not zero capability... I agree 100% with you Mike. There are so many situations where you didn't expect to need it, but now, surprise you do... Having the game just end there feels bad. There should certainly be suits or armors that are specialized for it, stronger thrust, faster top speed, larger O2 tank, etc. However, if we can do things to adjust our trajectory inleu of EVA thrusters, like throw a medpen or fire a balistic weapon, that would be interesting too...

I get the urge to preempt with the whole "Shits going to be a while" speel but how about you just talk about what you're ACTUALLY working on that has a legit chance of being in our hands in the 6-8 ish months. The whole way way off in the future theory crafting with these devs is what disingenuously causes all the doubt in the first place. And ships like the Gladiator, and many other pushed aside for the better part of a decade to sell shiny new ones is why I stopped all future funding. You just can't trust a thing they say.

I love the idea of armor that's bought being blue prints instead. Tbh I kinda wish all the armor and weapons that you buy on the store were blueprints and make those base blueprints easyish to get in game. So like ships it hopefully won't be as big of a deal since upgrading ships or upgrading your blueprints to be able to craft the best options would be the main goal. Buying a blueprint or ship just gives you a head start. It's still not perfect but I honestly don't think we can get to a actual perfect system since they've been selling ships for so long.

With salvage we only have two types of material. So here's something. For example we have Drake and Origin, two companies on vastly different sides. Drake is probably one of the manufacturers who use the cheapest materials to get a job done. Origin has specifically been said to use only the best quality materials, add to that the fact that luxury ships cost more so case and point.. So then if I salvage an Origin ship, why am I not getting higher tier materials that earn me more by comparison? Another thing past hull and construction materials would be.. Why can't we salvage various fuels, upholsrty, parts (partially can on some small ships, glass from cockpits ect. By all means group the many smaller things, but a ship is more than just two forms of metal. And what about paint stripping? could be a fun way to earn in game paint jobs, hell why not include a new paint shop loop additionally tied to those supplies. Salvage COULD supply so many other loops as a backbone. It could even be more than just salvage a ship, you could be salvaging for a further purpose past that, similar to Towing jobs. Do this to unlock that.

I really wonder where all the employees of CIG are regarding the tech and gameplay. I do not understand why 1 guy would be the product owner for multiple important gameplay loops like that with that many employees. Switching between these topics like that can't be good for making serious creative progress. Each one of these loops/systems should have a product owner with a team working on that. The following is just what im feeling in my gut with this: The way they have this set up now really looks a bit like they're running on the absolute bare minimum of people somehow, but how the fokk is possible? - im starting to feel scammed honestly and i do not like that.

To add to the conversation I would really love to have presets and setup presets that show up in the suit locker and I can swap what I am wearing with the doll or it puts my cloths into a preset in my inventory. Then give me a dozen or so presets so I can have different outfits.

Off the dome, they could do a scrape intensity mechanic which increases scrape speed but eats into CM output if used for too long in a certain spot. Also, grabbing guns and components should definitely be much more lucrative than it currently is.

@@mcaddcit needs to be balanced to the point that you don't mind having another person to split credits between in a reclaimer, for example you make 1mil an hr salvage split 3 ways, so ~333k/hr, adding a person who only strips guns should add about 100k/hr split, to boost that rate slightly. It's not something you would do instead of salvage but on-top of if you have the crew. This Would also make it a profitable thing to do in a cargo ship.

1,196 devs all working on the marketing build. 4 devs working on PTU. They pretty much admitted they spent tons of time trying to rush the sandworm, in game demo. This is probably why they dumped 90% of the features that were supposed to drop with 4.0. Also: 7:45 before the first question. The pauses are about to be insane on this one 😭😭

One Question about the topic with the "flying with backpack" thing. When i am in the command control stand of my carrack (the one in the front on upper bridge), can i leave my clothes and the backpack equipped? I mean, its not a seat. I am just standing with joysticks and its possible to fly the ship from there. What do you think? Backpack possible? (realistically seen yes. But who knows what will go on xD)

Because it's a gristle in my burger: "Realism" and "Immersion" A lot of devs, and business people at dev companies fundamentally don't understand this and only know it's a player popular buzzword and actively work to produce an experience completely counter to expectations. RULES 1. Do not make mechanics at the expense of fun. 2. Make the player's connection to the character and world as seamless as possible. 3. Realize it's a video game, not real life; and it will always be so. 4. Don't frustrate your players with arbitrary problems that can be solved with 5 minutes of thought or less, because your characters/world would have solved it too. Is: Animations for smelting ore, mechanics for transforming the raw resource into refined resources and finally into usable products. Is NOT: Making refining steps take 12+ hours when a player might have 1-3 hours to play, arbitrary randomness or ultra-specific requirements during the process, requiring the player to have a degree in computational theory to understand. Is: Making interaction as simple, thoughtless, and seamless as possible. Is NOT: Forcing the player to hold a button, manually search for an interact icon and click it, choose an action and click it, then figure out what they wanted isn't available in the context. Is: Giving armor uniqueness and purpose, tracking ammunition in magazines and magazines in inventory, having different types of healing items to treat different types of injury. Is NOT: Arbitrarily preventing players from flying a ship while wearing their armor, using UI and menus for extremely common or repetitive actions, forcing the player to play tetris for half an hour every time they load their ship with cargo because you couldn't make boxes and cargo holds standardized for your fictional industry.

Getting a Blueprint for your sub gear is easily the best salution. Just like ships there going to start at T1 and the stats attached will be entirely dependent on the mats you use. Calm down mike its just cosmetic

I think If somebody kills you and loots your flair armor you shouldn't craft another right away maybe only craft after you lose it once for 72h or so, some game does that

They are super excited about adding all these new features, missions, fluff to the game. But we are stuck at phase 1 where nothing functions correctly and the basic gameplay is missing. Cart before the horse and these updates are just rubbing salt into the wound.

I thought we wanted cosmetics for sale? Sub armor blueprints just cosmetic. that just means players can sell a skin and not everyone wants those store skins so how is there any pay to win?

@saltemike The reason for the whole "make it realistic and then make it fun" - thing is to find out how much realism is fun and how much is not. You making it sound like that Devs always know or have to know what they want to achieve. That is not the case. They have to find that out. Only because people usually don't get to see how games are made, doesn't mean Game Devs are some kind of masterminds. I also don't understand how the "There is no Gameplay" - Guy could possibly say "Don't waste your time finding good gameplay!". I don't get it.

I dont play Star Citizen, but listening to these guys its sounds like their in Kickstarter phase of starting to develop a game. And they are now what 10-12 years in wiith a budget atleast twice the size of a AAA title.

I feel a lot of frustration with the way CIG handles med beds, I think down in bunkers and around on planets where PVP or PVE is going to be going on in certain places, there should be chair one med bed, I think the smaller ships have med beds should be here two, I think very large ships and capital ships should have tier 3. I don’t think you should have to stop everything. Find a way to get back to a planet. Limp to a hospital so you can get to a tier 3 medic bed Is cool gameplay, I is a waste of time, and a pain in the butt and frankly just stupid. I think the hospital should be there with tier 3 beds. But there’s absolutely no way they should be the only tier 3 beds in the game.

GL in the verse'; About crafting subscriber gear: most important qustion: WHERE will you be able to craft it? Will spaceports enable to access a "crafting machine" ? As a solo player, I don't expect to be able to claim a land wherever .... mats are secondary issue and time needed to craft it. But it looks like a solid replacement (imo ) for quiosks

let's hope salvage visor helps locate components you can take out of ships like shields and power plants etc. Suit lockers, you can do it manually or pay to do it automatically, it takes 5min per mSCU tho why... the fuck... would combat armor make you overheat more? it's SCIFI 930 years in the future they should have cooling systems and heaters FFS
