I went to a distribution centre for the first time this month, no other players were seen and once I completed my delivery I was made to leave as I was given a trespassing warning.

I think they should do away with trespassing. Instead let's have new forces inbound, like a security team to retake the site. Once they arrive they'll consider anything you take theft, so you have until they arrive to grab what you can because they'll scan your ship for contraband. If you have a shielded cargo and put the stuff in there it could avoid aggro.

I think it tells you everything you need to know about Distribution Centres that they've been in the game half a year now and I have yet to visit one. And that's with me being a player who majors on cargo and mining; you know, the two professions that should *most* tie into a distribution centre with a refinery.

The game sucks to play and has got way worse the last year. If the things coming into the PU from SQ42 is any indication of the state that albatross of a game is in, it’s no wonder all these devs they said would be coming over are actually still stuck in SQ4. The feedback on changes so far has been very negative. CIG c suites would (should) be shitting themselves.

I know they create their own stuff, but let me be clear: Features like these look like the result of flipping assets "The Day Before"-style. Putting crap in to create hype without it being really implemented into the gameplay. There is NO gameplay "loop" that I like at the moment. I'm more of a carebear myself and I love hauling, crafting and all that. But right now there isn't any fun doing anything. Just meaningless fluff.

Finally.. that turd out of the PU development way. Had to deal with 4 years of PU being on the back burner. After this year of PU focus....I'm still not impressed.

I went once to check it out. Decided to sit my character in a chair while I made supper. Clipped into the chair, couldn't get back up, had to restart. Went back to the center after the restart, landed on a pad this time instead of inside the hangar. Couldn't find a way inside from the ground level. Wandered around for 45 minutes before falling through the floor and getting stuck underneath the center inside the geometry. Tried to go back a third time, game crashed. I gave up. Haven't been back to one since. Pretty standard SC experience I'd say.

DCs are a pain to navigate too. I avoided so many delivery mission if i had to go to a DC. When I tried to do them the desk to drop off the deliveries disappeared.

Watching this now is really helping me temper my expectations for base building. Their going to sell us a vision that's 5-7 years out. I hope they finally publicly state that the game should be considered an early access live service game. If they discuss a feature and it's all slide shows.....

Distribution centers? I'd rate them as pointless. That functionality should have been implemented in landing zones. It would have made landing zones feel more alive and given them a reason to exist beyond just being a spawn point. We literally have massive cities in game that are just smoke and mirrors decorative, lifeless, repetitively tiled geometry.

Facts! For every completed cargo hauling mission I've failed four or five due to something janking out or the game crashing and it getting abandoned. Impossible to grind rep if you keep losing it faster than you can earn it through no fault of your own.

@CrowDawg11 i have done a lot of testing on cargo rep, you don't lose it unless you click the abandon button or actually fail. You can pass them with a partial delivery for at least partial credit. And 30k abandonment doesn't count against you. So you can do cargo without losing any rep. You might not gain any, but if you are losing it, you did something wrong. I'm not trying to defend their broken ass game, just saying cargo is the only shit I've found that does work even on buggy ass servers.

@@Coupe420 I was told that if you abandon it before it fails or bugs out it will not effect your rep. however I think this may be in regards to bunker missions that I more often do. but with bunker missions sometimes you get to kill some enemies and then your force to leave the base as they just don't spawn NOR does the mission give you a complete. so in that case I was abandoning the missions as I was informed to do! Do you have a link verifying what you told me as I would like to read it for myself ( If you have it ).

You should see the concept art for the distribution centers. The subterranean levels, tunnels, underground mining, refineries. When these were released, players actually thought that would be in the game. What was given was not a whole lot more than just eye candy and the same old missions, just in a different location.

@@senn4237 it's not even realism, really. What trucker manually loads his trailer? What container ship captain loads the conex boxes onto his ship? I get that there has to be some kind of something for us to actually do or it's pointless but why am I taking 10 separate 1SCU boxes or four separate 2SCU boxes to the same place? They should be packaged into a smaller number of larger boxes unless all those smaller denominations are going to different places. Having to move that many individual boxes just burns time and makes it tedious, sapping the fun out of the gameplay.

I personally believe we will forever be gated out of having anything like raids for as long as we don't have the credit split that we have now. If we were to get a raid in game the credit payout would have to be astronomically high and for as long as the credits are split as they are the payout for skeleton/solo running it would be so absurdly high. I know in my bones that when bunker missions payed out 100k each they were for sure intending for you to bring a group with (why would you when you could get 100k?)

To be fair...these features begin with art to establish the aesthetic and ergonomics. Game designers are working on the macro-cosm and can install and implement terminals and systems literally overnight (the development occurring much longer in other closed circles). BTW the hold up on almost everything...BANDWIDTH!. The server meshing really is the key to a lot of concepts being realized and smooth. That being said, the modular design allows buggy implementation...kinda like an appliance awaiting a proper receptacle to plug into.

To the game being made, I think some people (majority) think that when they announce something it will happen, in game dev that is not the case. They can talk, but until you see a solid date for 1.0, everything that is said at these conventions is just thought on what could be. I think people need to look at it like that. When I backed this game, I never ever thought it to be anything more than a development hill (I have been backing since 2014). I look at this as until I see a date for 1.0, everything said is just concept, period. Like I have said multiple times before, this game could die today and close all servers, and I still do not consider the $$$$'s I planted to the development a waste. It was fun while it happened, and I'll just move on.

My take on base building: It cannot be functional until MUCH later in development, when there are a ton of (solar) systems (Unless I misunderstand how it will function) It will be released WAY too early and for a ridiculous amount of money (carrying cargo quickly was $40, imagine what base building could be initially) It will not function properly upon release, and will be missing several core featres

Pretty sure that was the swan's song of Todd and his team (the last part). I think people didn't like the "best stuff is going to be in Pyro" idea (the original star map design was that the best stuff will be in mid sec and pve "nullsec" - vanduul systems). We'll see if that's the case on this citcon if they going to backpedal P.S. I believe it hasn't been a "Chris Roberts game" for a while now. For lots of reasons. But I think previously it was "Pillar's Game" - specifically Tony and Todd - and that was a design by committee and I think they had very different understandings of what they game should be. Then it was Todd's game for a couple years and Todd wasn't able to move in the direction he wanted without ruining the funding (he tried multiple times). Now he is replaced with Rich who is very explicitly the man that makes all decisions on SC (they made sure to point it out in multiple ISCs).

When I remembered it again, I decided to check in on what was going on - pretty much immediately went "Oh... okay... there's still very little new to do and I still have no reason to want to play yet." When I saw more CitCon shit coming up last year, I didn't even remotely care about watching it live. I watched some of the video uploads later, and took every single thing as "yeah, okay, sure - if I happen to see this shit show up within this decade I'll think about it." Would be interesting to know if any and how much of the stuff from 2016 CitCon isn't in game yet. Cause that was also said to be coming within a year, and the itch in my brain is like... there's probably stuff from that we still don't have.

I haven't had any meaningful progression in the cargo hauling I've done. It's just a pretty long grind to earn enough money to get a bigger ship to go from small to medium missions. Sure, I can do junior and member missions and so on, but I have to deliver to more locations in a given mission. It takes longer. There is no reason to take a medium mission and take two trips instead of one in my C1. It's far better to take more than one small mission at a time. Even if I had a ship to haul the entire medium mission, the pay is about the same as the medium. I feel the missions were designed around people buying ships off the website. If there were actual reputation rewards I'd have a better reason to keep grinding. I tried bringing up ship weapons on the cargo elevator and changing them out with the tractor beam. The weapons wouldn't work when I tried to use them.

Seeing that they have lots and lots of boxes of various sizes in their hangar and then having to witness how "some" (like 40% ...) of my containers I received for hauling despawn while I sort them off the grid is a bit mindbogling. Why such containers are even eligible for removal is a bit beyond me. I opend an IC ticket therefore but with no other votes on it it pretty much will get closed (as all of my other tickets I opened) as well. No wonder why bugs do not get fixed, when most valid issue repports do not receive the required 10 votes needed to "confirm" it. Instead you'll find plenty of archived ones with similar requests/reports.

Can someone explain to me how the base building is supposed to work when your base is built in the same place that someone else's is? Like how will that work do you just never get matched with that person ever?

From my understanding two people can't claim the same ground. You have to register the land claims with the UEE or another body.

@@bartasbxx there are no systems designed other than "in theory". Base building and land selling is 5-10 years old. CIG keeps going back to this well of money hoping you continue to give them your money on this tech demo only

@@hawk2086 So then you can just buy out all the land hypothetically? Is one land plot always equal to another? in terms of resources? Surely it would have to be otherwise the really good plots will be taken and then nothing but garbage would be left. There is so many questions I have about this system. What about teraforming the land? I mean if you wanna build stuff you would still need to clear the area out from rocks and stuff. Picture Starfield where that is done when you try to place something,. Is that something they can get to work on the go? I mean it seems like a massive feature to implement. So many questions.

@@bartasbxxif everyone playing the game currently bought a land claim, they wouldn't even fill up Daymar. I don't think you have to worry about all the land being purchased and yes there will be certain spots that are more valuable than others due to resources.

I was at Citizen Con last year. I can tell you the people I spoke too at dinner and playing in Pyro and watch flight for fight thought NOTHING being said was going to come out in the next year EXCEPT the pretty stuff like graphics and new ships. I am just saying in my opinion a lot of people follow SC more than actually play it, know the reality of SC.

After watching these people struggle with the production of the Dist Centers, I can't help but compare the size of the dist center with the size of the Kraken, and wonder if they could have finished the Kraken in the same amount of time, and think... "Which one of these would have made the players more excited?" I for one would have loved to see a functional capital class ship in game, available for players to fly. Thoughts?

Thanks for doing these. I’m not telling players to not play this game. I’m not even telling them they shouldn’t be spending money on it. But every backer or potential backer needs to be aware of CIG’s track record, both past and recent past. They should be informed that what is hyped at CitizenCon rarely if ever comes to complete fruition. To take what is said and shown with a grain of salt.

I went to do a delivery at a distro center and surprisingly got jumped by enemy NPCs on foot. Even though I was completely unprepared for FPS combat, it was kinda fun to end up in that situation and have to try to escape alive.

2024 is a complete failure. Overhyped. Overpromised. Under-delivered. Broken. Distribution Center 3/10: Great look and presence with no gameplay worth speaking of. Reputation 0/10: Absent in any meaningful way. Rewards 0/10: Nothing. Nada. Buy it from the Subscriber Store. Missions 1/10: Awaiting a refactor and not implemented beyond the necessary hauling missions. Freight Elevators 4/10: Solid implementation of the elevator with some bugs, UI issues, and gameplay considerations left to work out. Where are the specialized cargo containers (refrigerated, hazardous, ammo box, suit locker, med box, missile rack...)? What aboit bringing up vehicles? Local Inventory 1/10: They broke looting...in an MMO. No tools to organize and efficiently manipulate inventory. Ships were not updated to have internal storage lockers, necessitating gear boxes on most ships. Gearing up and maintaining gear has become ludicrously difficult. I have the feeling that the loss of Todd Papy was bigger than we know. I wonder how much of this year's failure is due to the vacuum he left. Things felt positive and progressive before he left, then we got the year we got. A good director can make a big difference.

Nah. Todd Papy leaving has nothing to do with it. People forget that it's Todd that spear headed Cargo Decks with "cargo missions" and even "escort missions.". And in the end, cargo decks are a useless location. Sounds familiar? (Distribution Centers). So no, one single dev leaving has little to do with it.

I'm saying that when someone with direction and vision leaves, it creates a vacuum. Maybe Rich is a better Director. We're suffering through a change in leadership. That has an impact.

@@TheGavric I agree but all the points you listed in your original post are not issues that are related to Todd leaving. - features being delivered incomplete and late. Been the case for years. - locations that look good but nothing to do there. Been the case for years. (Caves, cargo decks, etc...) - reputation and rewards being terrible. Been a problem for years. I get you. Todd was one of the ogs, and his loss is a big deal. But I don't think any of SC biggest issues in 2024 has anything to do with his departure (that's where I can't agree with you.). All the problems you listed are issues that have been there for many Years now (while Todd was in charge)
