As far as different modes, isn't the "Random" technically Reef Crest and Lagoon put together in one mode? It has the Max, Min and Variance in which you can set to operate either way. You want Lagoon, set the Max lower and Variance to low. You want Reef Crest, set the Max high and Min low with a High Variance. I'm just speculating of course but, makes sense to me. Same with Pulse mode. Seems it could be adjusted for "Nutrient Export" mode or "Gyre".

Never understood the “none” variance on the random flow. Is that just a sine wave where it will smoothly go from min - max - min (like 2% a sec or something) ??

Speaking as a viewer, we admire your expertise. I've learned a lot from you. However, this entire concept of reviewing products you're seeing for the first time is flawed. You don't have experience with the product yet. You're making guesses about how it might work based on your background. This negates the magic you bring as a subject matter expert. At the very least, play with the product for a bit and see it work. Who knows what important things you missed? Ideally, you use it for a few months first. If that's too much to ask, at least get it wet BEFORE you start the review.

I think there's a little value in first impressions but agree it would be a lot better if he used it first especially until it's first maintenance as I assume it'll work but how easy is it to clean

Why is aquarium becoming so hard to keep with all this computer junk .iam not good with all this technology .Why not have things you can enjoy the fish an corals .

First the marketing is strong in this hobby. Social media, forums, and more. Marketing is right in your face. Gyres are a different beast as it relates to flow. You don't need the phone app or controller integration. If you don't want that you don't have to connect/link it or buy a different brand. Maxspect Gyre is the standard. Orbit, icecap, red sea, rest, license. Maxspect is also the only one that allows the quickest, or fastest, reaction time on the motor block. Most others are limited to 2 seconds.
