I hope I catch 1 Omilu in my life....The blue spots are cool! I have my dad's home made Ulua pole that my Uncle (his brother-in-law, I got my middle name after him "Takeo") made for my dad, then refurbushed in the 70's, (we used it to pick mango's) My dad didn't have the patience for fishing. He passed 9 years ago and I want to catch a Papio or Ulua in his memory. I need to learn how to cast a conventional reel, (I always used a Spinning Reel). I am learning a lot from you, thanks!

Here’s an odd question?? Maybe. Is it possible to slide bait not using conventional?? I have a twin power 8k spooled with 50# braid and a 12’ Speed Master rod.

Nice Omilu! Try giving the fish some more slack since the lead isn't fully lodged in the rocks yet. They'll probably unstuck themselves. FYI, that Molokai slide will only work in steep terrain. On sandy beaches, the angle is too shallow and the bait will be suspended above the water (unless it's a darn heavy bait!). I use the opposite from this on sandy beaches. I have the lead on the freely moving swivel and my hookline on the tag swivel. I usually set my drag loose because when the fish takes the bait, the lead stays in place but the hooked fish can run, and won't feel the hook immediately. This is known as the fish-finder rig, and the leadline is shorter than my hookline because it'll tangle eventually (Never use wire lead in this rig). Very aerodynamic rig too.

No show to much bro! It took years and years hard work and dedication for people to learn that rig not something taught on KZbin! It's always good to teach but some tricks should stay in the bag and taught in person to people who deserve and put in the work to know
