This is an incredibly complicated video for a "tutorial". I was just looking for an explanation on when to use Salvaging.

11:00 it could have also been a base variable value of 2.14 up to 2.85 if the game always rounds down after adding the 40%. The minimum is 2, but we don't know that it was a 2. I bring this up because in code, casting a float to an int is truncation, not rounding, but sometimes developers will add +0.5 before truncating to get a rounded number. It really depends on the game and the situation.

You could be right about that

I believe there in a table for the variable resources. The table may be set once the item is spawned. Yes what you have shown with salvage operation was correct, because you were demonstrating the quantity of resources, but we have other skills like lucky looter, that not only increase the rng chance for better loot, but could potentially place us in a higher bracket that could increase the number of resources of a particular type. I haven't tested this theory yet myself, but may be something to look into
@SavensWorld3 жыл бұрын
That is true. The major downside to Lucky Looter at the moment is the fact that it is a percentage boost to your loot stage which currently is tied directly to game stage. I do have a video on the Lucky Looter perk that explores this more in depth.

kinda late here, but did you may figured out, what exactly are variable resources? Iron isn't. That we now know. And for sure, Electrical- und Mechanical Parts are variable resources. But whats about Engines, Batteries, Scrap Plastic, Brass, Lead, Brass Radiators, Gasoline and all the other obtainable parts i didnt mentioned? Wich of them get affected? So is that perk really on the bottom of the list? Or is it worth for excessive car-grinding?

Great look, I've clearly given Salvage Operations too much credit. Also, I felt like I needed a graphing calculator for most of this video!

Haha yeah it is a rather complicated perk for sure

@@SavensWorld do you get more headlights and springs from cars and beds?

I'm curious what lead you to assume a rounding point of about .75. I'd automatically assume .5. Based on my testing, it looks like the RNG picks decimals between 2 and 6, rounding at .5, and a normal distribution.
@thincrediblewho4 жыл бұрын
I tested with 40 fuse boxes, and salvage operations level 1. If my assumptions are correct, I should expect: A. RNG will pick a number between 3 and 4 about 68% of the time, and B. Most of those numbers, multiplied by 1.2, should round to 4 or 5 (anything between 2.92 and 3.75, multiplied, would round to 4, and anything between 3.75 and 4.58, multiplied, would round to 5) I got 4 electrical parts 16 times and 5 electrical parts 11 times. That's 67.5% of my samples, almost precisely what I expected.

Try performing those same tests at the higher levels of Salvage Operations. The results may surprise you.
@mbm31553 жыл бұрын
Darn it, I ranked to 5 hoping I might get 2 engines or 200% engines but I like having extra electrical and mechanical parts
@SavensWorld3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is a little misleading what you get from this perk.

One thought comes to me which makes me wonder if this test might have a slight flaw. You may have thought of the same thing and tested for it but didn't mention because the results were not significant. The AI generates the RNG the moment the item spawns in. That makes total sense. But, is that RNG related to the players Game Stage at all with items like this? Obviously it can be where a lootable crate etc is concerned, but what about static/variable salvageable items? Other than running a very complicated test where you start at GS 1 for the first group, then upgrade yourself to GS 12 then add the second group and keep leveling before adding before salvaging the further groups I am not sure it can be done. And certainly not seeing the practicality unless someone just wants to conduct that test. TBH, the differences shown here just moved Salvage Operations very near bottom of the list of perks to use precious points for. Maybe one early on if I am ready for a workbench but no wrench found, but otherwise, just nah. Having what looks like a random but generally equal chance of getting 50 gasoline when wrenching a car at level zero or level 5 means those points go elsewhere.
@SavensWorld4 жыл бұрын
I've tested Salvage Operations extensively and there is no significant difference in the amount of variable resources based on game stage. The range of possible resources is the same no matter what your game stage is.
