Fitting a 7.3L Godzilla Motor in the Slammed Continental - 1965 Bagged Continental Ep. 3

Salvage to Savage

Күн бұрын

The 7.3L Godzilla swapped Lincoln Continental is back this week! We're finally stuffing the gigantic drivetrain in this slammed slab. But first we have to finish out the work on our frame. The last time the 1965 Lincoln was on the channel, we set up our Crown Victoria front IFS under the engine bay of the Continental. Now we have to take the final steps to connect the Crown Vic subframe to the original frame of this classic car.
Once we merge our new frame pieces with our old, we add our extra bracing to our frame bends to get ourselves ready to drop in our Godzilla motor. We're pull our stock oil pan off the motor to make some more space both above and below the motor to make sure it has the proper positioning before we start fabricating our motor mounts. We're starting the process off with our ICT Billet mounts, but since that we're connecting them to our Crown Vic subframe, we have to do some chopping and welding to make all of our contact points match up!
Now that the motor is installed and has more than enough room under our hood line, we can move onto our next big step! So make sure to like and subscribe so you don't miss a single step of this build!

Appreciate you not editing out some of the fab stuff, keeps it honest and real. We all run into issues when making custom parts. End result is it’s fully welded and the cover plates look good. Easy to say just grind it out and make a new piece but in the real world if you can make it work, it works. Cars going to be epic when it’s done and not everyone can make all the parts work together like you guys are doing!

I am rarely one to be negative on someone's fabrication and methods cause we all go about things differently. I have always thought you guys did a pretty good job fabrication wise but something bad happened here. The mig welding is scary on this project and the weird random scraps of metal tying the new frame to the old frame seems pretty sketchy. I kept waiting to hear that the engine mounts were just a mock up and you planned to have some CNC made based on those or something. I get it if this is just heading to SEMA, but if so, I wouldn't show the corners being cut. I have been watching for 2 years or so, I think you build cool stuff and never had any concerns about the fabrication, just seems like you said "We need this done yesterday" and plowed through it.

CNC motor mounts, you mean Billet? if so why? its a simple bracket that no one will ever see once its all said and done. We dont have an endless budget here on our builds to do such expense parts. Probably should box in those bushings that extend out of the frame rail to connect to the sub frame, have the bushings 1/8 inch below the surface so it clamps down on the frame and not just the bushings. Also Probably should tie those engine mounts to the frame rail, you're putting a lot more engine than that sub frame was designed for. Please tie the inside of the frame rail further. Back than 3 inches it looked like you had all kinds of room on the inside of the frame rail

Thought Ford was now offering an intake manifold with a more straight intake angle than the initial "truck" ones that point upwards. That would have allowed you to use the stock oil pan and have clearance under the hood...
@SalvagetoSavage
@SalvagetoSavage Жыл бұрын
We want to make sure we have ample room between the hood and the intake. But the oil pan isn't just for the hood clearance, it's also going to dictate how low we'll be able to sit the car before slamming it down on the pan
@AlexandruBauer
@AlexandruBauer Жыл бұрын
@@SalvagetoSavage so wouldn't an intake with a straight TB mount be better than the stock truck intake with the upwards mount? You'd get a ton more hood clearance as well and I think some better higher end torque as well as the runners are of a different length as well.

How much strength do you actually think you are adding to or taking from the original unibody with the new framerail design? Have you done calculations? I'm just curious. For its time, the 4th gen Continental had EXTREMELY high torsional stiffness at well over 13,000 Nm/degree. I wonder how stiff you could get if you found one of these cars in VERY good condition, stripped it bare, and caged the entire thing with crossbracing along the roof.

That chassis is going to be way heavier than a factory Chauncey guaranteed up that's not chrome-moly and it's going to be a heavy or should I say a heavy your car all I can say is you better put a good set of tires on it and see what the rating is for the weight of those tires other than that it's going to be a nice build
@SalvagetoSavage
@SalvagetoSavage Жыл бұрын
Not to worried about weight. The car isn’t built to race or go fast. It simply to cruise, look cool and be load. I think we’ll be ok. But hood call on the tires we be sure to get the corners weight up before buying wheels and tires

Dont have to be sorry Thomas, were not gonna win everyone over, all the time. Our goal is always to do the best we can with the equipment we have and try to keep it all in house. We are all learning and getting better everyday, there isn't a book to read on half the stuff we do here. the motor mounts are simple, and didn't need to be anything to crazy or over thought. As far as those plates go, we all think they look cool, and the customer likes them so that's most important. keep in mind, once everything is painted you'll hardly even know they are there. Any ways thanks for watching and giving us the feedback. Mikey
