Cost us $2600 to get down a huge tree. We have another one not dead yet. Going to work on treatment and pray we don’t have to cut it down.

Is it save to use the wood chips from an infected tree in your yard?

Err on the side of caution and don't use them unless it's for burning. The EAB can still live in dead trees, and wood chips from china are the suspected culprit that first brought the EAB here.

I just cut one of these down and was planning to mill it. I just took a look at it today, two weeks since I cut it down, and it has all cracked from the center outward. The bark just falls off, which it had been doing for awhile. What caused this tree to crack so badly? Is it just age?

It's part of drying. If it was dead standing it was already starting to dry out. You probably still have plenty of useful lumber.

Those Stress tracks are Normal running vertically up-and-down trunk. this is why we suggest harvesting Ashes before they die. And start splitting from wind bending.
