This is the kind of thing you wait around for...A tribute concert to...whom? a tenor most people have never heard of...a blue tux, an open air concert...an aria beginning in the most unpretentious manner and building to a high C that would drive all three of the tenors into a jealous rage. A man with an italian name...Salvatore Fisichiella, who has calmly and dilligently devoted his life to venerate an art form without fanfare which demands a priesthood of study and a lifetime of physical practice. Boheme is not belcanto style. It is verismo. Bel canto is Bellini Donizetti, Rossini and some Verdi.

Bel canto style of singing, not style of opera. Boheme/Puccini is definitely verismo but all can be sung in the bel canto style.

Bel canto IS a style of singing and a style of opera, with it’s ornaments and many techniques that are different from the verismo. What you mean is just nice italian open and clear singing. I mean, he sings bel canto too, but if you are not doing cadenzas, no ornaments, no appogiaturas, no variations, no “repetire la nota”, no messa di voce, and you are not singing a bel canto opera, definitely you are not singing Bel Canto.

Been listening to this aria for almost 45 years... never heard it sound this good. That lift on the high C is what Bel Canto is all about. Beautiful, melodic, captivating. (the whole aria, not just the C).

No one does this piece as well as Fisichella, it's simply unbelievable, I've listened to early Pavarotti, di Stefano, Björling and many others do this aria and Fisichella is just unreal his "talor" just gets me every time, he is called "the last great tenor" for a reason!

Maestro Fisichella never got the attention or household name he deserved internationally but he certainly delivered the goods and could sing the tights off of most of the big name tenors around. He still sounds youthful and beautiful to this day and Thank God is teaching young singers how to sing not scream and woof!

M° Fisichella is today 77 years old and I have been told his voice still sounds like this, soft, silvery, ringing, beautiful. He had a great career but, I agree with some of you, he deserves to be known and heard by many more people. And let's hope that many young singers will take advantage of his huge experience.

I met him just yesterday at his home (catania )..he is really big tenor...he is better that every one you think ..not villazon...or cura or florez..or alvarez or vargas or caleja...they are nothing compare to him..he is around 60 years and he can sing 100 D and D#...he was teaching my to sing high notes....I wanted just cry...

As far as I'm concerned this is the greatest rendition of this Aria ever. Even my usual favourite Corelli couldn't quite touch Fisichella's perfection. That, and I find his voice a tad too dark. A light and beautiful voice for a light and beautiful aria.

in terms of the general technique, tone, and his style of singing this style of lyrical Italian opera, he is the prime example of the lyric tenor. different fachs/classifications...different approaches...different vocal styles, but the overall vocal techniques should be the same.
