Que hermosa voz, varonil y con agudos libres y seguros... Que lastima que el Maestro no conocia bien esta musica y lo dificil que es para un tenor cantar esto, algunas veces los Maestros son muy testarudos y no entienden que su principal labor cuando acompañan a un buen cantante, es hacer que el se sienta comodo pues somos nosotros los cantantes los que damos la cara al publico, no ellos! Bravo Salvatore, desde ahora soy tu fan.

A rare opportunity to see one aria with two conductors! The nominal conductor starts it off much too slow. Fisichella enters at a much faster tempo. The conductor draws it out again just before the high C# and Fisichella beats out another faster tempo with his left hand. LOL! Fisichella remains one of the most underappreciated tenors of recent years. Maybe he was difficult to work with? I don't know, but here he's right and the conductor is wrong.

Well yes, I can be stupid from time to time and I am not really all that competent musically but I didn't assert that there should be only one tempo throughout a piece of music. This sort of thing is called a strawman argument. What I pointed out was that Fisichella seemed to be unhappy with the tempo. He started to conduct it for himself at one point. I have posted an Armida trio where Bruce Ford also starts to conduct while singing. Maybe they studied together?

About the tempo: most videos of the same piece in KZbin are about 1.5-2 minutes shorter. Most tenors sing it much faster than that

Poor Salvatore. I listened to this video for him not for this obscure conductor. There are only a half dozen men on earth who have the right voice for this piece. Any boob can beat time. The score markings are hardly the point. Read Gossett on Rossini scores. Those metronome markings were probably added much later by Ricordi (the publisher). Pavarotti had Emerson Buckley as his tame conductor. Buckley always played at P's preferred tempo and so avoided this kind of embarassment.

I love the tempo, not the singer so much. It is an extremely careful and well-articulated version from a musical point of view. A more ideal Rossinian might have carried it off better - but admittedly, not many modern singers have the breath for it.

Agorante where did you find the idea that there is only one tempo in piece? I saw other people with the same ideas that a piece have a specific tempo from the beginning to the end if there is not a composer mark. But to challenge this new way of thinking just listen Klemperer, Furtwangler, Celibidache conducting and you'll see that a metronomic regularity is is completly stupid in the mayority of the music.

@CelesteVoce Well... I think it's unethical to start pushing like this when the conductor has been so unethical to start in his own tempo. It's your job as a soloist to go with the orchestra, you'll just have to be that flexible. The audience deserve a harmonious unity, not the strife of two captains on one ship.
