The song and video are autobiographical. The scenes in the desert of Utah are inspired by her time in her late teens helping to build on the Navajo reservation after getting clean around 14 or so. After getting sober she moved to NYC to be closer to her uncle because her home life was abusive because of her mother. She survived being forcibly separated from her family and a suicide attempt. While in New York she said she would “walk the streets at night and just go with people”. When a reporter pointed out that wasn’t exactly safe she mentioned that she had never been hurt because she had a good read on people and went on to talk about how for a few years there she was “just lost … I didn’t even have a social security card”. Soon after or even during this period she joined a cult and would eventually write about it in her song “ultraviolence”. After a few years she eventually made her first album and used the money to move into a trailer park. You can actually watch the interview of her showing off her old trailer on KZbin! My fav part is when one of the reporters noticed a lot of crime scene tape on a trailer and nervously inquired about it and Lana insists “oh no- he’s really sweet”. This girl has lived the rock and roll lifestyle.

Can you give me sources for this, please? I would like to see Lana talk about this if there is something available. Up to the trailer park interview, I’ve seen that ❤

Lana is art. So glad you’re becoming a fan. This video was crazy when it came out. Like it was just so different. I think you’ll be really excited by her newer stuff because it really makes you think. But ya buckle up.

Lana del Rey is a worldwide phenomenon, an icon of modern music, and a highly gifted poet and songwriter. I see her work independent of one song, all her albums were a huge success, not the kind of Top 10 hits that come and go. Her work as a whole is a piece of art, for the music as well as for the lyrics. In the same way we look at authors which describe certain periods of American Life, her songs do just that. She is highly underrated in mainstream music, but she has millions of fans worldwide....including my 13 year old daughter (which surprised me initially). She can be a female role model, not in the way the song depicts, but in terms of freedom and power.

Bout’ been here at this time being as she is… Other women died been someone else or with their own performance… Lana is an artist that just appear in history in a weird time of time. And keep her is soooo mesmerising… If U want the full context bout her personal journey… listen. Old money… swang song. Dark but just a game. Wildfire wildflower. And the 2 masterpieces of her AOTY album.” Kintsugi and fingertips”
