It's about a mother whose lost her child and her navigating through her grief. Many have taken this song while navigating through their own grief of losing someone. Shinedown doesn't have a bad song. It's ridiculous how good they are; and, we're all better for it.

Brent Smith(lead singer) is from my hometown. I used to see Shinedown and 10 years at local night at a local bar everytime they had a show. So proud of both bands.

This song came out right when my very first boyfriend left me. Needless to say, I listened and ugly cried to it a million times. It was a dark time, I was also lost in active opioid addiction. Went to rehab the next year, but this song always held those memories.

I lost a daughter many years ago, she was very young. I tried to process the loss for many years. I finally heard this song when a friend recommended the album. It didn't make things better, but it helped me to think that this is the song I would have written for her if I could write like Brent Smith. I dedicate this song to her very often on social media. Every time I'm missing her. It's my therapy, I suppose. Thanks, Brent, and Shinedown. Thank you also, SalvoG.

I need you to know this…you just explained every feeling… emotion… that I haven’t ever been able to put into words before… please don’t think what I’m saying is being overly dramatic when I say you literally brought me to my knees …I’m still shaking trying to type this…. My son died of a drug overdose on May 16 2022 … I have been a fan of shinedown since 2010 when i first heard the song therefore the first time i heard of shinedown….the song spoke to me on a level I didn’t understand. So much I had a tattoo of a crow and a butterfly tattooed on me in 2012…..on the day my baby boy Mason died , I understood because this is the first song I turned to…. It was instant and to hear you say what you did, just Damnnnn dude , thank you! Thank you from the very depths of my soul….thank you from a momma that needed this more than I could ever explain to you Sincerely Sheila Adele

I couldn't say it better, including the other "The Voice" references. Really appreciate Rik being included in this list, he doesn't get the props he so deserves. The thing I really appreciate about Brent is the complete emotional connection in every single line of every song he sings.

Shinedown is an incredible band ❤ The first time I heard this song and Second Chance, was after losing my son to fentanyl. During traumatic loss; certain music remains attached to loss. I noticed many others connected with these songs for the same reason. I connected so deeply that I discontinued listening to music for over a decade. Even now it is limited. Music is powerful and Shinedown is genius when it comes to weaving emotion into a masterpiece.
