French is my first language. I can't begin to tell you what it meant to the young Michèle to be serenaded in French by her first crush. He's still my crush and it still makes me melt.

That’s beautiful Michelle. Incidentally what are the “only words he knows” in French. I’ve been singing the phrase for fourty years, but I still don’t know exactly what it means. I know - I am a lazy British person! But as you are here could you enlighten me?
@micheleparadis28084 ай бұрын
@@andrewwright9378 "Michèle ma belle sont des mots qui vont très bien ensemble" are the only words that he says he knows. I bet he knows "je t'aime" but it would lessen the meaning of "I'll get to you somehow" which is one of my favorite lines. I'm a big romantic
@sourisvoleur48544 ай бұрын
@@andrewwright9378 It means "are some words that go together very well." Literally.

Stripping the instrumentation down this far is a musical flex. With a melody this strong, the flex is totally justified.

This beautiful song has such a French vibe. If you want to hear a Beatles/Paul McCartney beautiful ballad with a Spanish flamenco vibe, please check out, "And I Love Her". Paul's vocals, with the beautiful instrumentals make it so, so stunning. I guarantee, you'll love it!

This is my favorite album by them. Many people cite Revolver which is fantastic, but this lp birthed a new direction by the band which knocked me out when it was released!

I agree. Knowing that the Beatles are my favorite band, daughter & granddaughter took great pleasure over the years in telling me how much they hate them & I always let it slide because, some people's kids, amirite? One day I'd had enough so I said "OK, which Beatles do you hate? Asking because, beginning with Rubber Soul in '65, they were a different band on every album. No one else did that."" Silence on their part then & forever ever. Amen.

The adults were won over by the Beatles' songs Yesterday and Michelle back then, and even And I Love Her. When you say song of the year in 1967, that was for the year 1966...the presentations were always early in the next year. Lennon and Harrison wrote their share of beautiful romantic songs as well. Harrison "Something", "Here Comes the Sun." Lennon: "In My Life", "If I Fell" "Julia", and so on.

McCartney enlisted the help of a French teacher friend to come up with a name that would rhyme with subsequent phrasing. The "I love you" bridge was John. Ma Belle translates to "My Beautiful". Pretty song.

Rubber Soul remains one of the greatest albums ever released, and a real game-changer when it was released in winter 1965. However, I prefer the US release song lineup over the UK version. The US version included "I've Just Seen a Face", and "It's Only Love", two gorgeous songs that were released earlier in the UK, and the UK version includes several songs that to me, don't seem to fit the mood of the album, like "I'm Only Sleeping", "Drive My Car", and "What Goes On". These are all fine songs but to me, don't belong with the rest of the album. It did include "Nowhere Man", though, which is one of Lennon's finest songs, IMHO. When I first heard "Michelle", I couldn't believe it was the Beatles, it had such a different sound. Stunningly beautiful with some very unexpected twists.
