Hey, if you want to do a complete hike to the top, I would recommend staying for a night. But in April it would be cold and snowy so exploring outside for long could be difficult. If you just want to explore the grounds you can do it on a day trip easily from Salzburg.

Hey Naina...how much time it took from Salzburg to Hallstat in total ....were these bus connecting..and in google the in between connection is showing train thus taking more time. thanks for your info...since we are visiting in October 2023

Hey, it takes around 2hrs and the bus are connected. We just waited for sometime in Bad Ischl but there are continuous buses, so there should not be any issue. Just make a note of last bus time while going so that you won’t miss it while coming back. The bus actually takes a little lesser time than train.

That boat takes you to Hallstatt town if you come via train as it drops you across the lake. If you are coming by bus, you can rent a boat to enjoy the lake.

Hey, ideally it should be good as it is summer time but would recommend to check the weather few days before your visit and adjust the day if required.

Hello, you mentioned that there are 2 ways to go to Hallstatt from Salzburg (via bus 542 and 543 that same as yours and ferry) is the cost of 30€ the same?

30€ is for a day ticket by bus, with this you don't need to take the ferry. That is required only if you come by train for which you need to check the price on their train ticket booking platform.

Hey, it's valid only for the Salzburg to Hallstatt route. You can visit other towns and lakes on the way to Salzburg with this ticket.

That's right but as far as I know the train route takes a bit more time compared to the bus and also the bus route is more beautiful.

Hey, I didn't visit but you can take the same bus all the way to Dachstein Ice Caves instead of getting down at Hallstatt.

There are no dedicated seats, so you can buy a ticket directly from the bus stop, just reach there early. I would suggest sitting on the left side on the way from Salzburg.

We took the morning bus from Vienna around 8:30-9 and started back from Hallstatt by bus around 4:30 pm. It gave us around 4-5hrs to explore Hallstatt.

Also, we are planning to travel from Salzburg to Hallstatt in April this year, so I have few queries for this route. One last question, what is the last bus that departs from Hallstatt to Salzburg ?

Right, I meant bus from Salzburg and not Vienna. You can check the timetable at salzburg-verkehr.at. The first bus starts around 6am (8:30 on Sundays) and the last bus returns in between 5-6pm if I remember correctly but you can verify information on the shared website. We bought our ticket directly from the station or you can even buy it directly from the driver, it's quite convenient or check website fahrplan.oebb.at/ to book it in advance.

As shown in the video there are a lot of lakes on the way from Salzburg to Hallstatt and they look beautiful from the road. You can make stops on the way if you want, we didn't have enough time.

No, I didn't but you can use the same bus to get down at Ice Cave. Instead of getting down at Hallstatt, get down at next stop

1. We started around 8:30 as it was Sunday and the first bus ran around 8:15am. Other days the first bus is at 5:55am 2. Yes, you can. It also depends on how much time you spend on each place and have to do time management. 3. Yes, a 30 euro ticket is a day ticket so you can also get down at other stops on the way and board the bus again as many times as you want.
