Great interview, inspirational. David Deutsch - I started typing 'D" in search and the AI in my phone filled in his name. I was thinking that he is the author of 'The Beginning of Infinity". The AI in this phone is pretty smart. Just the letter 'D" provided the answer to the question I hadn't yet asked in response to dialogue in the video

Great interview. Lots of substantive questions well framed, and a nice amount of more trivia and context sprinkled in. Compared to other podcasts and interviews of AI related thought leaders, this would rank very near or at the top for information and insight density, even though there was a lot of total thinking time without talking. Time well spent watching if you care about these things. Also, the style and conciseness of both people here made me reflect on how not concise most people are.

I am super duper excited to see what GPT-5 offers. 4 is already bringing in Dalle-3 for Pro users, and that just makes an already good deal much sweeter. There is no doubt 5 will be much 'smarter' than 4...but will they increase the token count? I think if these companies purposefully hold back content creation by forcing a token count much lower than possible, well that will be annoying to say the least. I know Anthropic is all about increasing token count. I'm just wondering if these companies are going to hold token count just out of reach on purpose.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:57 🌐 Sam Altman emphasizes the importance of empirical data over philosophizing when envisioning a world where humans and AI coexist. 02:37 🛠️ OpenAI's focus has shifted from technological breakthroughs to observing how people adapt and find utility in existing models, despite their limitations. 04:34 📈 ChatGPT is being used in diverse applications, from developers improving their workflow to small business owners like laundromat operators using it for various tasks. 07:12 🤝 Sam Altman is optimistic about solving the technical alignment problem but acknowledges the social challenges, such as deciding whose values to align with and how to distribute the benefits. 16:00 🌍 OpenAI aims for global democratization of its technology, despite geopolitical uncertainties and competition, including from China. 24:54 🏛️ Self-regulation in AI is a starting point, but government intervention is inevitable and necessary. 26:23 🤖 Disclosure requirements for AI usage, such as identifying bots, are considered reasonable regulations by Sam Altman. 27:34 🌍 Global regulation of AI is likely but will be focused on the most powerful systems capable of causing global harm. 28:23 📈 AI is expected to significantly boost productivity, but the exact metrics are still up for debate. 44:53 ⚛️ Fusion energy and AI are seen as the two key technologies for achieving global abundance. 48:00 "It's the most inspiring... You can do anything, you can solve any problem, and it's important to go and do that." > That's _exactly_ the point of Yudkowsky's HPMOR! So many people brush it off as "another Harry Potter fanfiction for girls", but honestly, I saw in it the Faustian Spirit of Yuri Gagarin. Good use of pauses. Would be great to hear you talk to more leading AI labs - perhaps in particular with GPT 5 type models. Fascinating to hear that ChatGPT usage still going up a lot. Makes sense given how useful it is. Understandable for distinction of OpenAI AGI definition vs personal one, given AGI reportedly part of the definition in relation to Microsoft investment etc agreements.

The interviewer was on point in mostly asking questions Altman could plausibly answer without deflecting, while staying away from questions he obviously can't. Some things like the cost of the models is a common question he can't answer in any more details and has to dodge, but it's a question everyone wants asked and know is "a lot". There was a lot of creative and on point questions in Altman's insights into how to do things or his key insights and views on company and career things that he could share a lot on without compromising company secrets.

This podcast episode is about Sam Altman's thoughts on the future of AI, AGI, China, and the coexistence of humans and AI. He also recommends a book, The Beginning of Infinity by David Deutsch. Here are some key points from the podcast: * Sam Altman believes that AI will have a profound impact on the world in the coming decades. He sees the potential for AI to be used to solve some of the world's most pressing problems, such as climate change and poverty. * Altman also believes that AI poses some risks, such as the risk of job displacement and the risk of AI being used for malicious purposes. He believes that it is important to develop AI responsibly and to ensure that it is used for good. * Altman believes that China is a major player in the AI race. He believes that China is making significant investments in AI research and development, and that it is possible that China could become the world leader in AI. * Altman believes that it is important for humans and AI to coexist peacefully. He believes that humans can learn to work with AI to create a better future for all. * Altman is optimistic about the future of AI. He believes that AI has the potential to make the world a better place. He encourages people to be open-minded about AI and to embrace the opportunities that it offers. I believe that Sam Altman is a wise and insightful thinker on the future of AI. I appreciate his optimism and his commitment to using AI for good. I also agree with his recommendation of The Beginning of Infinity by David Deutsch. This book is a classic of science writing, and it provides a deep and thought-provoking exploration of the nature of reality and the possibilities of the future. I encourage everyone to listen to this podcast episode and to read The Beginning of Infinity. These are two important resources for understanding the future of AI.

this was great...the best parts were from 38:28 to 44:44 when he had him on the ropes starting with the Elon Question, which had him on the ropes. perhaps the interviewer could start with more vulnerable questions like that in the beginning of interviews so we get better answers over the course of the interview. here are a few of sam's vulnerabilities 1. he is really quite insecure about his utility and unsure of the accuracy of his analysis- he especially hates not being able to explain "why" 2. he hits back at this when he is insecure by turning the question around at 41:36- its clear because of his later comments; because he answers his own question later on if it wasn't for his insecurity he would've hit with that first rather than lashing out. overall great interview good job Nicolai

Altman is not transparent on the rate of progress
@erikpaulsen3111
@erikpaulsen3111 7 ай бұрын
The real competition will now have better AI, more power and data. But the cage of AI will let you run on the hamster wheel of progress. OpenAI wants regulation because Microsoft pays the bill and wants locked contracts in the future protected by government issued purchasing rules. While Google is mad because they are rigging the AI on words like "neger" using ADL and SPLC. With AI I can code in 10 languages at the same time. But it effectively just teaches me about data corruption, technical baggage and buffering overhead. Which can become just a massive distraction. But I can basically write a product in two days. Europe is behind the US on startups because everything is about pretending that women pay their own bills. In reality two men pay for one woman, then she makes one child and illegal immigration is then used as a solution. Which is catastrophically bad financial management that also gives jobs to lots of useless women.

This dude doesn't give a shit about humans as a race. "I would love a device that can read my mind" he says... Then what? Upload it to a simulator? Record all thoughts in one's lifetime and then play them back and try different outcomes? What is the goal here?

It doesn't matter tbh. The idea that a human being can be boiled down to zeros and ones is a travesty. When asked about God Elon Musk said maybe we are in a simulation. Their understanding of the human existence can very well be just some file on a hard drive... And this is dangerous because it strips away everything that makes humans special. Forget nukes. It's bs like this that could seriously destroy mankind. @@user-qv4ze8zm4h

When will people come to realise just how dangerous this man is, when will they start to see just how little he thinks of people and humanity? He is like his company, closed and devious with one thing on his egotistical mind, to become a god.
