Sam and Kirk McGee in their prime! It seems to me that the Opry never figured out a way to convey the flavor and spirit of the radio show to a television audience. These videos produced in black and white (later colorized) in the 1950's is about the best they ever did. The old time performers were still on the scene, and the radio show was still at the Ryman Auditorium. This was before they moved to the new place, threw away the old time music, and the old performers passed from the scene......replaced by unrecognizable newcomers all named Murray (or whatever.)

Wow! Awsome footage of Sam & Kirk. Looks like it's from the Opry from the 50's tapes. I thought I had the whole set but I have never seen this footage. Where did you get it? Thanks for posting.

I know this is random but I live in Charlotte NC and found a 7" reel to reel recording of Sam in his friends kitchen in Mathews NC playing 12 songs with Alvin Tipton playing Rhythm guitar and Sam playing Lead. Sam also sings several songs. The quality is amazing and the tape is in great playable condition. I planned on dropping it on digital and putting it on KZbin but wondered if it isn't the property of his living descendants. Maybe you could shed some light on my dilemma? Its an amazing find and I dont want it to be lost with time.
