1st saw New Grass Revival in mid- late 1970's .... here remembering a show in Johnson City, TN. at an Old theater down town ... by Down Home Pickin Parlor, Ed Snodderly, and I guess "Tank" ... no doubt . Sam has been my favorite musician ever since ...joining the ranks of ...lol ...Duane Allman, and Leon Russell .... and song writer, musician Bob Marley (Sam really drew me into Marley). Duane had already passed when I became a fan as a teenager , Leon? I just always liked Leon ... and was surprised to find that Sam, John Cowan, and the 1st band toured with Leon for 2 years .....anyway, YES, Sam is a National Treasure .... I had not seen him in years( been tied up), but got to see the Sam Bush Band at Rhythm and Roots in Bristol, TN 2019 ...Great show ...so this song, esp breaking into Midnight Rider, triggers a lot of memories in this 62 year young man ...May GOD Bless You Sam, and All of "Yours!"

Mahalo for this amazing video! Attended my first Festy and was not disappointed with the show. Saw Sam Bush for the first time in 2008 at Merlefest in Wilkesboro North Carolina(if you have never heard of Merlefest..look it up...the best music festival on the east coast). This song was so fun to be a part of. My hubby and I were up front in the first row...I think you can see the back of our heads! Love to play this multiple times a month...Aloha! P.S. My hubby bought a Mandolin because of this song!!

Also, I have a question - the axe Sam plays on Midnight Rider - the one that looks like a Fender Strat that stayed in the dryer too long (and lost two strings) - tenor electric guitar? Electric Mando without the octaves? Inquiring minds want to know...

Not heavy at all -- around 3 pounds or so. I have a 1930 National Triolian, very similar to Sam's. The metal is not that thick. It's tuned in open D.

It's actually a banjo, believe it or not. The organ sound is all through the effects. I saw it up and personal when they came through St. Louis (a couple of times!).
