Unlike a lot of quarterbacks of his generation, Sam wasn't shopped around to elite high schools or received special coaching to become a quarterback. He was a big athletic kid who loved sports and played at his local public high school (San Clemente). Sam did not have the benefit of good professional coaching till he got to the 49ners and now he's blossoming under KOC. So happy for Sam. I hope the Vikings keep him. And I wish him a great career.

My roots are in both Minnesota and SoCal so I was watching this cat during his USC days and saw huge potential. He won one of the last great Rose Bowl games and came up clutch as player of the game. During his tenure with the Jets, I saw flashes of brilliance get stymied by the likes of Gase and a horrid system for a young QB to be in. In Carolina, he did not have a prayer and still almost got them to the playoffs. In San Francisco, he learned patience and humility and it has paid extraordinary dividends. This cat can ball. After week 3 when people started saying MVP I said, "Hold on a minute! Wait for the adversity now!" The adversity came along in the 2nd half at Lambeau and has been prevalent, and he has handled it well. His winning percentage as a starter has climbed 80 points and may very well be 100 points higher by the end of the year, as well as a first playoff win notched. I was expecting to feel dreary wearing purple on Sundays this year, but Darnold, KOC, and Flores with his defensive schemes have had made me a happy bunny this year. Come what may, this season has been special, and I am expecting some good to happen still in the next six weeks, maybe more.

You don't let an asset like Sam walk in FA in the HOPE a rookie that has never played, and has been injured all season will be even ready, let alone better. Also if they let Sam walk in FA, the maximum return is pick 97 - the highest Compensatory pick. Russ Wilson was traded for two 1sts, two 2nds, plus 3 other players from the Broncos. Kwesi will not let that opportunity go to waste. Sam could be worth 3 or 4 top 50 draft picks at the 2025 trade deadline. Imagine what the Raiders or Titans would give up for him right now.
