Great interview. Sam Hanks raced in an era when many drivers didn't see old age. You had to have a lot of courage back then.

my Uncle raced at Indy 50-53....got to meet Mr Hanks on several occasions....I always thought the Belond AP Special was the best looking car of its time....Jimmy Bryan won Indy with the same car 1958,,,,those were the days of racing...

Sam Hanks was smart calling it quits in the winners circle......It doesn't get any better than winning the 500, and it could sure get worse, especially in the 70+ gallon fuel tank roadster days.
