This is why Outlander is subtly innovative. I've been raped and had multiple orgasms during it - I felt similar feelings to Jamie. Most shows would never deal with the feelings of confusion and self-betrayal you go through. But ultimately, you have to realize bodies just react in response to certain kinds of stimuli and it isn't your fault. I've never seen any other show discuss this.
@harrietamidala16919 жыл бұрын
Hannah G-K yeah, that's is what I appreciate about Outlander in regards to Jamie's rape--they really delve into the psychological consequences of rape and reveal rape for what it is. Not many movies and tv shows really go in depth regarding rape. I am so sorry that it happened to you. I hope you are healing.
@harrietamidala16919 жыл бұрын
Hannah G-K Whenever I thought about potential Outlander adaptations, I was always worried about how they would deal with Jamie's rape--would it stay or would it be cut because very few movies and tv shows deal with the rape of a major leading man, if at all. Very relieved that not only was it kept in, but that it is given the solemn and serious treatment that it deserves. I once tried to write a screenplay dealing with a male victim of rape (kinda like The Accused, but with a male), but it was never completed because I struggled translating my ideas into a screenplay.

I might do that then (read the book that is), because the way Claire handles it in the show isn't very good, especially in Season 2 when she comes off not nearly as understanding as she should be. She just keeps *demanding* that he talk about it, it's not at all a proper way to handle such abuse. Even more disconcerting in comparison is how affectionate and understanding he was to her when she was getting triggered by WW2 flashbacks.
@bonniea81895 жыл бұрын
@@Fyrtenheimer TBH I don't remember all the details of how Jamie's recovery was handled in the book because it's been many years since I read it. Mostly I remember Claire trying to keep him alive and him being so terribly injured that he didn't recognize her a first. I don't remember how they got through the next stage. I just meant that, in general, the first 3-4 books are pretty good. I really struggled to get through book 5 (Fiery Cross) though, because way too much time was spent on situations that didn't really seem to move the plot along or distracted the reader with side plots (i.e. all the extra stuff that happens at the wedding at Jocasta's plantation, or all the extra stuff that happens at whatever they called that clan gathering in the woods). It took me three attempts to get through that book, when the first four were page turners.

This interviewer has done the best interviews. I can't believe the uninformed, superficial interviews the cast is routinely subjected to. They are very patient and obliging. I don't think I could take it. Sam is astoundingly gracious. Regarding this scene, it is so genuine. Diana wrote it so truthfully to human nature. I'm very close to someone who experienced a violent male rape. It really is shattering. I also counseled a number of victims of sexual abuse, and one of the most anguishing things about it, across the board, was guilt and self-loathing for the inevitable sexual response of pleasure, despite their deep and lasting pain. I really admire Sam for taking on the inherent darkness of this scene, I could write it, but I could never perform it. It takes courage and honesty. Credit goes to Cat, too. In the next episode, when Claire fights to bring Jamie back to life, her portrayal was everything I felt as the wife of someone who had been so viciously sexually harmed. She goes from our usually poised, capable nurse, to someone who is also letting herself be broken. Cat amazed me with her range. You don't love a man less for being wronged in this way, you grow depth that aches and quivers and leaves you feeling washed out in a vast trackless ocean. You would kill for them, and you would die for them. I adore both Diana and Cat for showing this. The Emmies missed their shot. Sam and Tobias ... God, you can't say enough for their talent. The book is bound for being a classic, but if they had just hired pretty actors, the series would have sucked. Usually American producers fail here. I've been more affected by this book and series than all of American literature and cinema. I'm thorouly in love with Sam, but then, who isn;t? LOL

I very much agree with you - in everything you say. You put all these thoughts down to the point! On the quality of interviewing, I would like to toot into the same horn. So many interviewers are asking flat questions up to the point where I feel bad for the actors having to come up with an answer. One can notice in this interview that Sam really gave his opinion, point of view or explanation; he gave real answers as opposed to when he is being asked very superficial stuff to which he cannot even really reply with substance. I have notice din one interview together with Cat that he was rather quiet, letting her answer a lot of times. I don't know for sure but maybe because it was one of those interviews and also not the kind where one let's the person asked finish their sentences. No, this 'facetimed' one was a very interesting interview with good questions indeed. I enjoyed it!

Why do you say American? Are you saying all non American series are masterpieces? You have good and bad all over. What other big hitters have been non American?
@susannecoolkidsgerman79895 жыл бұрын
@@evelynwashere13 Even though you are not replying to or asking me, I would like to chime in and say that I think that you misunderstood a bit what Unhinged Nerdy Redhead wanted to say. They are not saying that American Series are no good or non hitters but that often mainly 'pretty' faces are being cast instead of the ones that fit a character mainly because they act great and the way that is needed to let the character really come to life. This series is great in so many ways and one is that the actors look fantastic with (seemingly) little makeup and they act so believable and they have to be so versatile - their situations change all the time and with that their happy, sad or sympathizing feelings. That is why one can so easily put oneself in their shoes, I think. Of course, the script (of a book in this genre) is fantastic! I have also never ever heard such smart dialogues, and throughout the whole show ! So, idk but I think that is what I understand and that is what I think. I have seen a lot of wonderful movies and shows, European and US alike but in this genre, this one - where Europeans, GBs) are the majority - is unbeatable to me.
@evelynwashere135 жыл бұрын
@@susannecoolkidsgerman7989 I don't think I'm misunderstamding. These great TV shows are created by Americans, do you really think they couldn't have cast Americans for those parts? They would go for people with Scottish or English accents first because it's easier and that's something they don't have to deal with. Sure these actors owned these parts, I'm not taking anything away from them. I have a problem with so many comments about Americans when these shows were created and written by Americans. Europeans can be so condescending it's unbelievable. A lot of you guys just group all Americans into one bunch. Every state is completely different, almost like countries. Some states have events or things in their environment/cultures that people in other states haven't even heard of. That goes for words, phrases, food, styles of music, you name it. So please cut back on that generalization of Americans. None of you guys know every American series, there are a ton you don't see, pretty faces or not. You just don't have as many worldwide hits unless you have a pretty face. I don't thing Breaking Bad is on a lot of people's radar and that show is fantastic.
@susannecoolkidsgerman79895 жыл бұрын
@@evelynwashere13 No I absolutely agree with you here and definitely grant you that there are people who do have an unbelievable bias in the way you say. I do not because I see and hear it a lot (daily - I am living in the US being German) and I know I have to go against that as it does not do any good and it is not right to lump all Americans into one bag nor all Europeans e.g. either for that matter. I simply mean to say that I see certain movie makers and actors do better because they identify with something, with a culture more than others. That does not mean that they are the better actors per se but (in my mind) for a certain role. I think that American movie makers (directors, writers) are often great in fantasy e.g. and carry out their work with great quality so that the outcome is fantastic. I happen to think the same about European, or better, British actors and writers, movie makers when it comes to (European!) history based shows or films. Mind you, I do not speak in absolutes but in a general manner. I would never dare taking away that quality from someone because they are of one but not the other country, race, ethnicity or background. I could simply not envision a non-British person in the role of Jamie or Claire. I watch movies in their original version and I am having a hard time watching Outlander in German e.g. I dislike the voices and some of the translated dialogue but that is my 'problem' because I know and love the original version and the German dubbed one makes my hair go up ;) One more thing, I have been living in the US and Germany as well as the US are dear to me and my home/s and I will do all I can to stop people from generalizing cultures, especially when there is no proof, just feeling and a few encounters that people then use to make up a general rule. So, I do understand your point.

I have noticed when I worked with Sir Ian Mckellen, He has his ways but its hard to be as joking or playful with then Other actors. Im sure you are funny behind the scene. Ppl that notice that about other are that way themselves. Many actors become the characters 100% of the time, you can only just do your work and be as serious as they are. What ppl misunderstand about me, if they dont' know me is,,,, ppl will assume I have a crush or ? on ppl and they step away/back till they realize I am just outspoken and open minded. Working in salons and growing up with 5 brothers, I learned to work with models and my clientele, I will never hesitate to tell my client when I am prepping them for the hair or waxing , etc, I will tell them how handsome they are but with a lil tweeking, we can get others to see what I saw in them. I would do a lil waxing of the brows but keep them masculine, nice hair style, and sometimes they would want a manicure and pedicure once they got noticed by girls/women that they had been wanting to date. Then realized how rough their hands and feet were and wanted to learn on how to take care of them. Shoot!! I made more in tips when I worked at the Pentagon then my pay check. I use to even make custom colognes/male perfumes from their own sweat. Its an awesome form of chemistry I had at my finger tips. Next thing I know, they would be introducing me to that special person they had been wanting but just never felt handsome inside. I guess its like why ppl have surgeries, which I think thats a bit to far unless its repairing something they feel looks bad. I Think the french model that acted in "Hannibal Rising" is very good looking .. he had an accident and injured his cheek but vs trying to repair it, he uses it to his advantage. ppl think he has a dimple. My first Love had Dimples and I think they are endearing though rare on men..esp. when they blush and you see the cute dimples. Odd, I grew up actually very quiet and shy then opened up like a blossom by 19/20. Then I noticed no one could make me shy or ?? around any person that others think are sexy, hot, popular in any way. I think a bit of that was also most my school yrs in Las Vegas, Nv, I met many ppl that headlined at the casinos and never understood why ppl stared at us when the singer would see me waiting for my parnets playing slots and Im bored and they sit next to me and start chatting. I never saw them any dif then me. I was working in a Bakery that was a restaurant in front at 16, and Arnold Schwarzenegger came in to eat and photographers poured in and I didnt know who he was. I told my boss and coworker and requested by my boss to make the original Kesslers Banana cream pie..so I made this pie and still keeping Kesslers recipe secret, Arnold loved it. and by the time I had been tapped on my shoulder , wearing ear plugs and such, I was covered head to toe in flour, Arnold had come back and asked to talk to the person that made him that pie. I had compressed air near and blew as much off as I can so I looked atleast civil to talk to someone besides my coworker and he gave me this huge hug and requested a pic. My boss got a copy but said he would make me one, which I never got. But honestly, back then, He was only in competitions and as I thought then, these ppl that gauked to actors or famous ppl, I ddin't see any dif nor felt they were special other then the job they did. It broke my heart as well; hwr, on the other side of the spectrum, I hope any male regular viewers, which I am certain there are many, that perhaps they can sort of feel more sympathetic toward women with regards to the emotional, physical, & psychological trauma that comes with enduring such violation along with the guilt that always manages to follow such a violation of this nature. Perhaps, while goddess forbid any man's wife, girlfriend, sister, mother, other female (or male) family member or friend goes through this type of horror, maybe they will be more understanding, supportive, caring, & openly reminding this person how they are there if a shoulder to cry on, someone to listen, or just sit there with out the words but rather the knowledge that this person is not alone will follow them after actually watching such a horrid, shocking violation of mind, body, spirit, etc... After I watched these episodes a couple times (I've lost a great deal of my sight so I often what series & movies - esp those where I actually go to the cinema to view them, well listen to them b/c I can only see about 1 to 3 inches from my eyes & that's with severe loss of peripheral vision, night blindness, & with significant loss of clarity - I watch these over & over again sometimes 2-3 to as many as several or more times b/c each time I tend to pick up on something I've missed from the previous times. With regards to actually going to see a film in the cinema, I will watch the film again where I can actually bring the computer screen on my notebook, which is a 17in screen with both HD video & sound, & I have to pull the screen really close in order to take everything in, particularly anything that gets lost in the peripheral. I have less than 3 degrees peripheral vision; in order to put that into perspective, a person is req'd to have a minimum of 60 degrees in order to obtain a driver's license b/c anything 40 to 20 degrees is statutorily blind where anything less than 20% is considered 'legally blind,' which allows for certain tax breaks as well as filing & receiving disability income, though in my situation, in addition to the above, I have a total loss of any depth perception but also mobility impairments that have become worse due to autoimmune diseases that were dx'd about 15yrs after the blindness from a retinal genetic disease though there's 2 of the 4 autoimmunes I have that also damage the retinas as well as the corneas along with the joints, bones, connective muscle tissue, etc.. damage that becomes significantly worse over time, which breaks my heart b/c I did work & train horses off & on throughout my life since I was a young child incl'g breaking a horse to saddle without breaking the spirit of the horses; in addition, I've cared for, treated, & exercised horses who have had injuries or were mistreated as well. I'm almost jealous of the constant beauty of the horses used in Outlander b/c I'm not able to ride anymore & I used to show horses as well as ride in parades in period piece gowns (usually Victorian & pre-Victorian-era) that req'd the ability to ride side-saddle & maintain control of the horse when covered from neck to ankles in a gown as well as a tightly cinched corset. B/c I was such an experienced rider, I was usually the one with the most spirited horse so it req'd working with the animal for a few weeks every day in order to build up a repoire as well as a healthy respect for each other to lessen the risk of being thrown, which I have have my share of being tossed out of the saddle & being tossed off when I'd often go riding without bothering to saddle the horses I've ridden. Believe me, it's daring & I've always been a major adrenaline junkie so it wasn't unusual for me to get the horse I'd be riding in parades up to a full out run while jumping fallen trees, creek beds, etc... - yes, even side-saddle...) Of course I realize this is a tv series based on a book but the scene with Jaime & Black Jack at Wentworth Prison reminded me of a line from The Shawshank Redemption when Red (Morgan Freeman's character) makes the comment about Boggs not being gay b/c he wasn't gay - he was referred to as a 'bull queer' b/c all they enjoyed was taking by force & how one had to be human & Boggs didn't qualify. I don't quite recall whether that came to me after the 4th to 5th time going through those episodes or sooner but it did bring that line back to me & surprised me as to how it so perfectly fit the character of Black-Jack Randall. It was truly heart-wrenching how Black-Jack played on Jaime's breaking mind & broken body by using Claire as the way to reach him & force him to break completely. I also cried through the horror each time I watched it while trying to keep my eyes as clear as possible in order to hold onto the episode in case something would come up later that those episodes were vital to have seen & understood later in the latter episodes & future seasons. I think it hurt even more b/c we already know these are strong, proud men who do not wish to be coddled or demeaned whether it was by their own wives or another man. That kind of pride & honor appears to be rooted into the very core of their being, which is why it broke Jaime to the point of being ashamed as well as feeling unworthy of being Claire's husband or even living at all. It was totally & completely heart-wrenching. I'm glad to know I am not alone in feeling so disturbed by the actions of Black-Jack & how he appeared to seek Jaime out, as if he was living & chasing the poor man just for his sole pleasure of finding a way to keep him under his control where he could hurt Jaime & further defile the man for as long as he was capable & had the protection of the Duke. Though I do have to say I LOVED THE EPISODE WITH MURTA WHEN HE COMPLETES HIS VOW BY "LAYING VENGEANCE AT CLAIRE'S FEET" AS WELL AS jAIME TOO. The more I get to know Murta, the more I come to see him as a gentle soul while at the same time, a proud Highland Scot who would have been an amazing birth father to have raised Jaime vs his god-father. It was laid so bare when he offered to take Mary as his bride despite what happened to her & the fact he was willing to go that far to keep her safe & cared for as well as out of the reach of the likes of Black-Jack Randall.
@TheCatgirl67 жыл бұрын
I think that's a very astute reading of it--your analysis of Randall's strange complexity. "To Ransom A Man's Soul" was one of the best, most compelling hours of television I've ever seen, for all it's disturbing brutality. I think you're quite right, Randall is a sadistic man who nevertheless seemed to harbor a kind of hidden tenderness for Jamie. There is a point in one or two of the flashback scenes where he is almost pleading with Jamie, as though telling him "you're forcing me to take from you something I would rather share with you if you would just let yourself respond." I actually felt I understood this, when I thought about what life must have been like in that era for men whose sexual makeup was not the hetero norm accepted by society. You felt a weird flicker of--I hesitate to say "sympathy" given all he put Jamie through--for Randall, that he has to resort to such extreme measures to express not just physical but emotional desire for another man. But of course my deepest sympathy was for poor Jamie, forced to endure this unwanted obsession. I think this story arc has freaked out a lot of people long accustomed to seeing women placed in this kind of peril (especially in costume dramas) but never men, especially men as virile and heroic as Jamie Fraser.

Merci 😢❤

I've just rewatched all season 1, and 1x15 and especially 1x16 with the rape and the scenes in Wentworth between Jamie and Randall were beyond perfection. Sam's acting was extraordinary...and also in 2x02 when we see Jamie flinching, having nightmares and reliving that night in his head....you can actually sense and see his pain, his fear. Every single expression he does....it's so touching and realistic. He should win an Emmy for his acting there

I honestly cried during the rape scene. Thanks God I've never had an experience like that, I panic when strangers even touch my hand with my permission and I can't even imagine how it feels to live through such situation. But I felt like I was Jamie for a moment. I felt what he felt and my heart was pounding madly. I felt broken and wrecked. And when Jamie screamed lying on the table, God, it was the worst. It felt way too real. I agree that it was the best and the worst scene i've ever seen. So realistically horrifying yet beautiful in its horror. Probably because I find both actors outstandingly handsome I kind of enjoyed the scene. Now I feel like Jamie - guilty for enjoying something so filthy. It means that the director and the crew created a masterpiece. Thank you.

Kylie Kay For me, it's because the rape scenes in GoT are lazy and matter of course. Of course you're going to get raped, that's what men do. There's no discussion of how it affects the victim or what makes someone a rapist. In Outlander, it's more graphic, but you delve into the psyche of both parties.

I very much understand why the river's edge scene was one of Sir Sam Heughan's favorites. When he told Claire, "You're ripping my guts out", that's what I told my now-ex wife, when we got divorced. At some point, I told her, "You've ripped my heart out, and thrown it back in my face." Because, I still loved her, yet she only considered me as a "friend". Great work, Sir Sam.

I just watched this show, to say I'm obsessed is an understatsment. I love Jamie's character and the amount of respect I have for Sam and his ability to be bring the pain and raw emotion to such depth, is outstanding. The scene when Jamie was raped, it crushed me. I had to skip over it because it seemed so real, especially when Jamie was dealing with the flashbacks. I have a relative who went through a similar encounter as Jamie and I don't know how Sam did it, but I've seen that look after someone's been raped, and Sam was nearly screaming it through his eyes. She's still healing to thus day and it's been many years..i could never put in words when someone would ask me what happened to her. The fact he was able to talk and let Clair in, to help him heal...That scene wrecked me but only made me respect and love this show even more. It brought to light what true evil was and how someone through love and guidance and trust can become a new and healed person after such a vicious act. I know many were disturbed and angry that they showed that scene in such detail what happened to Jamie, but it needs to be put out there..people need to know what truly happens to a victim, especially mentally! Both actors took on an incredibly difficult role and the actor who had to be the rapist, I feel sorry for him. I couldn't image having to act such a vile and evil person, but hats off to him! Not an easy role and i pray he wasn't affected to much by it. Outlander is one of the best shows I have ever watched and plan to rewatch again and again!

The scene where Jamie was raped and tortured, had me bursting into tears. And this is where any great actor/actress is supposed to take us. We are supposed to feel something. Wonderful interview! I do find it interesting that most readers view this story as being sort of exclusively Claire's. That is something that I never experienced. I appreciated it was Claire's voice, but once Jamie's character was introduced, learning more about him kept me turning the pages through all of the books. I never viewed him as peripheral in this story at all. Loved hearing Sam's views on his experiences in season one!! He delivered such a phenomenal performance throughout the entire season! So hoping he receives the Emmy!!!

I know I'm a tad late to the show but just want to say as a survivor of man on man indecency this scene was portrayed perfectly all the brutality and mixed emotions, self doubt and self hate, the during and aftermath. This episode broke me more times than I'd like to admit, a painful reminder yet it was nice to see it being portrayed accurately for those more fortunate to not go through the experience themselves.

Thank you for leaving this comment; I am female so had no idea how a man would feel in that circumstance but imagined that the portrayal in Outlander seemed like what I thought it might feel like. I am so sorry about what happened to you ❤

I thank you for your comment. I haven't seen the episodes in question yet, so watching interviews like this are major spoilers for me. It being hard already to watch through the flogging scene, watching those episodes will be even harder. I am glad I can mentally prepare for it. Knowing it is an accurate portrayal of something that is such a taboo to talk about, and is actually meaningful to victims, I will keep that in mind while watching. It is kind of odd society today is used to picture male on female indecency, but male on male and the aftermath is a taboo somehow. I hope you are well.
@Luppo_018 ай бұрын
@@EmeraldVideosNL It being hard to watch is a good thing my friend, it shouldn't be easy. The problem with society is that things like this are either not spoken about enough which solidifies the "taboo" or spoken of too much which causes it to become a desensitized topic (female's) Unfortunately due to the past historical views on same sex attracted people being something that was "wrong" acts of sexual and physical violence against them was accepted and encouraged and sadly in some places of the world still is. There is also the social brainwashing beliefs of "Men have to be tough" and all that machoism that in turn creates a self-shame and hatred that unfortunately is subconsciously reciprocated by the general public, which continues the cycle. Fortunately we are moving forward with the times however like all things this intense, it will take a long time for society to take on a new way of thinking in fact it will never be 100% as seen by the cases of same-sex indecency. Thankyou for your reply, I appreciate the chance to come back and reflect on this topic 2yrs after I posted this and 10 years since my trauma. 26 and still going strong, but I feel that stigma everyday, Ive only ever opened up to a few close friends and my partner, I'm too ashamed to tell my parents and as for therapy I found there was no point as Im not ready to believe that it wasn't my fault. I know it wasn't but my belief is solidified because "as a man I should have done something" "just deal with it"

@@Luppo_01 I am very aware that it is meant to make the viewer uncomfortable, I am just grateful that I can mentally prepare for what is to come, because I am the type of woman to physically feel sick and stressed for several days after watching torture and rape scenes (it depends on how graphic, and as I understand from this video and the many comments, Outlander is out there). You are absolutely right, society just does not know how to find a middle ground between taboo and desensitisation. I am glad you are doing well, and that you can reflect on this comment so long after. I hadn't realised I was resurrecting a two year old comment, apologies for that. I wish you a happy life, I hope things will get better concerning the taboo.

As a fan who has read all the books before the series even started, I was always a huge fan of Jamie. I thought he was the perfect example of a man and a husband....willing to talk about his feelings, while still definitely being a man's man. I was raped and tortured daily by a stepfather for first six years of my life while my mom worked.It gave me painful seizures for hours daily. Still. Fifty years later. I am only just now trying to deal With all the fallout. It also ruined my relationships and my son and husband died because of my cruelty to them and rejection of them. I only could feel the feelings that allowed me to understand this after they died. Every day I wake up with severe grief and apologize to them. I hope to join them soon, but I keep going through all this horror daily - during the seizures my body involuntarily repeats the rapes- watching the show is helping a bit. I stop the show and process feelings as I go, cry and think and then do a bit more.. I haven’t gotten to the rape and torture bit yet.. I knew it was there because I had read the books years ago. Just seeing the characters maintain as much of their dignity as they can and deal with so much adversity without losing themselves is very inspiring . I am losing my shame and being able to think about how this could have happened in our distorted capitalist society. In many ways, the redcoats have taken over the world, and we are all under seige. The constant attack on the poor by the ruling class rich has had a terrible effect on our world. I believe that this negative treatment has resulted in many horrors, including molestation and people on the street dying around us as we step over them. But the best I can do right now is continue to try to process the truth, and Diana’s show is helping me greatly. I refuse now to be ashamed, and Jamie’s lack of shame helps a lot by being an example.

At 1:10, two things surprise me: 1. That the interviewer did not read the book. 2. That he is surprised by that particular revelation. Anyone who has read anything about rape and the psychology behind the victim and the abuser, as well as the body's physiological response would understand that the scene is a true life depiction of a possible situation whether the victim is man or woman. Superbly acted and emotionally raw.

I truly appreciate the artistry and the professionalism both actors brought to the scene. I commend you both, you've perfectly captured the cognitive dissonance that many rape victims battle with. Something I learned in a hospital emergency room. I took my husband in while he was just about to have a heart attack and he pleaded for a moment for a pain killer. The nurse said, "that's what women experience." Ah. I don't process the screaming of a woman in labor, which most women experience, that often led to a long, horrid death. And one woman may experience it each time. That's how Hollywood makes little of women, even now.

The 2nd time I watched I had to zoom past some of that scene. Didn't want to bring it back to my mind. I can applaud both actors to be able to get in that mind set to perform each little part. Heughan nailed those scenes. It was so intimate and disturbing that it was hard to watch - and I'm pretty tough. Menzies was equally great, if not better. Marvelous acting, great directing and really made the awful abuse scene come alive. Kudos and applause.

+Bambi Kill I'm a nurse so I'm not easily shocked, but I was in tears watching that...they did such an amazing job with everything...

Yeah, I hear you. I've worked with both vet care and human care, so I've seen some pretty gory stuff, but I have a hard time coping with this kind of complete mental and physical torture :S The flogging scene is the one that repulses me the most in terms of visual impact, though. I can't watch it again, when I rewatch the series I jump that scene. It gets my stomach churning :S

I've watched the full 5 seasons twice and I still have to fast forward some portions of the rape scenes. It's painfully & devastatingly realistic. Jamie is tortured beyond comprehension while BJR reveled in the entire horrific situation. Jamie feels broken. I cried. Excellent and incredible acting skills by both Sam and Tobias.

I have never seen anything like this in my life. It was difficult to watch. By this time you have fallen in love with Jaime. He is an incredible and wonderful character. So much that BJR could never be. Thats why he hates Jaime and loves him at the same time. I cried and cried and cried for Jaime.

Having watched this interview I have been given an inside view of this Outlander series. I have read all the books some time ago and just recently watched season 1 through 5 twice. Because I thoroughly enjoyed this production I decided to begin reading the novels all over again. I must say that the casting of actors was brilliant as well as any deviations from the original story. I await season 6 with anticipation and also the next book from Diana Gabaldon.

I have a male friend of mine that was raped by another male who was his relative. I think it is great that you are addressing the fact that men get raped too not just women. I had ignorant boyfriend a long time ago who jokingly said the police would congratulate him if he was raped. I stopped dating him because he was ignorant. Anyway, rape is awful no matter who becomes a victim of it.

I read every word and was tortured myself. There was no way I was going to watch it. The pain and humiliation was devastating for a man like Jamie.

I read all the books before the series - and I bawled reading those pages. Well I cried a lot reading all of them. I am a weeper. It was so horrific. I think the actors did a fine job - but only reading it does one truly get in their heads. Read the books - series is awesome, but not as good as reading it. Though the series has some of the finest acting seen: Claire, Jamie, Both Randalls, Murtagh - and the Mackenzie brothers - just wow. Acting at its finest.
@Xaforn4 жыл бұрын
Obsessed is a good word, lost self. As someone who has been abused before, when they see you’re broken it seems to give them a euphoric high, that was what I saw in that person. To have someone you love touch you, you shrink away from them. This was a very hard scene to watch because psychology it is definitely real, the weight spiritually etc. Very well done.

Interesting discussion. Range of questions, topics from Outlander story to acting issues, preparation for the role...psychology of his journey reflecting...our lives. Honest and revealing. Claire's story, Jamie's story...Discussion of adaptation, a cinematic journey. Sequence of lines: Word of honour, You can have me, I will not struggle...to Call me Claire...an amazing arch framing the Wentworth sequence. The final fusion of his memory of Claire is a brilliant shot. But it is a final defeat, a surrender, guilt, losing his soul. 💔 Sam, the actor, truly enjoying the challenge is inspiring, professional and charming. T/U. EP 🍀🍀🍀

I just watched the torture and rape scene. I was so moved by it. Rape of men is not often spoken of, in society or media. The emotional tole it played on Jamie and his journey through coming to terms with it was just brilliant. Getting hetro sexual men to speak of sexual assault is so difficult. Men often deal with it with rage and self medicating. Sam's acting and what ever research was involved in writing those scenes was beautifully handled. I found it drew out a better understanding within me as to what men go through..... This was a great interview.

During the torture and rape scene I cried probably for 10 minutes straight. What phenomenal acting from all of the actors.
@Stardust_43005 жыл бұрын
That was the most phenomenal acting. I like others couldn't watch it. To portray such anguish is powerful acting. How he has not won every accolade in Hollywood is beyond me. Claire's character is so shallow and yet she won? I was always so shocked. Sam and Tobias were so brilliant. When it's so real feeling that the fans are literally upset and can't bare to watch ..that's acting at its finest.
@n.a2834 жыл бұрын
I absolutely disagree with you Clair character ain't shallow but you entitled to your opinion. I challenge you to take her place and to act and then we will see how good you are in her character.
@jackieotab-brickey65033 жыл бұрын
Not gonna lie clair makes me so upset. But its the hundreds of years between them, she's from the time where as a woman she can do what she wants while in Jamies time, that will get her and him killed. Clair knows that but constantly keeps putting them in danger! Drives me nuts! Sam should have won that award and many more. Clairs character is selfish and always seeks to do the right thing (back fires constantly) but Jamie literally has been through hell and back and Sam nailed that through his acting skills. Hes phenomenal and truly gifted and without him in the series, this show would never have gone as far as it has
@catherinehopkins52542 жыл бұрын

Black Jack was spot on for a psychotic narc sadist. Black Jack was conditioned to be a killer and to prey on Jamie was his ultimate thrill. To prey and try to break that which is pure. What Jamie endured was heartbreaking and I was absolutely shattered for him. Weeping and wishing vengeance on Black Jack. However, Claire stood by him and her love and support along with his own prescription of returning to himself brought back the fire and strength that we all love about Jaime. He rose like a phoenix from the ashes!! Brilliant acting by all!!!
