"Nothing is as unbearable for a man as to be completely at rest, with no passions, no business, no diversion, no work. That’s when he feels his nothingness, his forlornness, his isolation, his dependence, his weakness, his emptiness. Boredom, gloom, sadness, fretfulness, resentment, despair will swell up from the depth of his soul." -- Pascal, Pensées
The secret is to do you're meant to do. When you got this together, everything else clicks.

For me, my social awkwardness faded as I got older and got more life under my belt. I think It really comes down to being unsure of yourself. You don't want to go through the process of making mistakes and then learning from them because making social mistakes is often pretty embarrassing. I think people become hyper sensitive to that feeling and want to avoid it at all costs, which in turn only makes you think more inwardly and therefore behave more awkwardly. Coming to the realization that everyone is socially awkward sometimes, and that other people don't care about your social mishaps nearly as much as you do helped me get out of my own head. You have to allow yourself to be human, and even the most charismatic people can be socially awkward sometimes. It's just part of the human experience.

I can completely back you on this, im exactly the same. I'm almost completely different to what I was like 3-4 years ago in terms of being socially awkward. I used to always be quiet and was even called out on it sometimes, which didn't help. I'd say for me it started fading right after highschool when I hit the gym. I realised that I put myself down and had low self esteem because of it. I assumed what people were thinking and automatically thought they disliked or judged me already. The realisation that I wasn't as weak as I thought I was not only physically, but mentally. I gradually gained the ability to be outgoing when I wanted to be, and the socially awkward side of me slowly started to fade. Even if you're fundamentally not extroverted, that doesn't mean you can't be outgoing, it just means you don't like it. You can change yourself, but it takes time. I'm still not the person I want to be yet, but I'm getting there. Push yourself to talk even if you don't want to, the worst thing in my opinion is to just sit there and be quiet, don't be afraid to talk. I'm not saying this in a bad way, I was quiet too and it just led me to be even more insecure and embarrassed in so many situations. Start small even, just try to give input in conversations when you can, try not to let someone completely carry the conversation, start one about something else. Best of luck.

Maybe you're just fundamentally misunderstanding introversion vs extroversion. It's about energy. An introvert gets their energy from being alone. They can be social and even very "extroverted." But it's exhausting. It drains them. An extrovert gets their energy from being around others. They can be alone, but it's exhausting for them.

glad someone else enjoys Jippy. reminded me of what my father growing up used to say way back. that the key to overcoming that barrier, like most things in life, is to take it with an enthusiastic start, but Only after a restful mind has given it consideration. that you should prioritize, ""not getting stuck in your head so often", and having an actionable plan while always giving such thoughts a night's rest before acting upon them. says it got him through awkward stages and meeting folks like nothing else. In other words, to just basically " think it, dream it, and do it" , as he'd like to put it

@@beganitdidnt6535 They are good protection mechanisms that keep you safe from social and physical danger at a basic level, but they can get out of hand and take over your life. Insecurity is the result of childhood issues like bullying or neglect, and anxiety is the method by which your body tries to help you avoid the situations that might trigger the insecurity, which eventually becomes almost everything. No one can hurt you if you turn into a recluse who never interacts with anyone and feels no emotion. You will be completely miserable, but the protection mechanisms will be doing their job in keeping you safe. For me they stemmed from being bullied, being overweight and going through a bit of a fucked childhood, so I just cut off everyone emotionally and physically. Once I figured out that insecurity was running my life totally, it became much easier to deal with it. It was counselling that really made the penny drop about what the source of my problems stemmed from and allowed me to go and do the work on myself to get over the extreme anxiety and insecurities I had all my life.

Using filler words similar to “umm”, “nom sayin’” and “like” is something everyone should move away from. It’s okay to have blips of silence when you speak. Your words carry more weight. It takes practice, but really think before you speak and you’ll be more articulate.

Hey viewers, as someone who is socially awkward myself and an introvert you are not going to want to hear this but the best thing to do is to just throw yourself in there. I know you are thinking "yeah but I got the anxiety and I am socially awkward, and it is easy to just say throw yourself in there but.." I hear you. I agree especially, I thought the same thing for years but you just need to find something you gel with or someone you like hanging out with and tag along with them or find things to do socially on the subject matter you like. Are you going to be socially awkward and weird? Yes of course. Are others around you also socially awkward and weird? YES! No one is perfect but you will slowly get more comfortable interacting with folks and not spilling your spaghetti over time, you will develop relationships and then become one of the people in these groups who is a mainstay in time. And then the energy of interaction will deplete less because you will need to act less "extroverted" in time. I still have the same problem as Sam, if you are introverted by nature you probably always will have that problem, and that is okay! You don't have to go and do everything every time and all at once. Take some time to recharge and then get back out. You sometimes have to force yourself and just decide that today is the day you are going to try something new, or experience something different and JUST DO IT.

Best advice. I’m still a little shy, but it used to be way worse. It only got better when I started tagging along with friends to parties and other social situations filled with complete strangers. Now I’m at the point where I can go out and accidentally disappear from the group I was with because I’m talking to random people. It’s pretty much exposure therapy.

So you can tell yourself something like, regardless if these people like me at least I can fix cars and those skills make me valuable. Something like that. @Frank7489
@Frank7489 Жыл бұрын
@@m1r197 Definitely not the last one. I don’t have all the answers but I’ll tell you what I’d tell my younger self if he asked. First start working out if you’re not already. I know this is common advice but ppl feel better through out the day when they’re exercising regularly. In my experience it works better than antidepressants or therapy or any of that stuff. Also, start drinking creatine. Next get a job. It doesn’t matter what it is really. Most ppl don’t feel passionately about their job anyway. If you have the skill set for a tech job I’d say do that. When I was your age I worked as a waiter, I was around girls (like waitresses and hostesses) I took home tip money everyday and I knew I could quit whenever I wanted and it wouldn’t be a big deal. I didn’t start the job I work now until I was 28. Last, keep in mind that your brain is the last organ to fully develop and it takes until you’re 25. You’re still becoming the person you’re going to be so don’t stress about not having it all figured out yet There’s a tendency around your age to put off taking action because ppl want to have more certainty before making decisions. But I think ppl would benefit from starting something, whatever it is, and just kinda learning as they go. Gaining life experience is better than waiting Hope this didn’t come off too preachy man, best of luck to you

Getting social confidence in adulthood is easy. You just need to make sure you have it by the time you turn 15, if you don't, you're fucked.

That ain’t true at all. It’s something you build up, day after day. If you allow yourself to be alone all day and stagnate socially, you will have a hard time. Just gotta get in the habit of interacting and talking to people regularly, everyone from your barista to your coworkers to the dude standing in line in front of you.

I was super confident when I was 15 or 16. Then out of nowhere I became awkward from the age of 17-22, and then my confidence began to rise again. Im 26 now and more confident than ever. So I don't think you need confidence by X age or otherwise your fucked, there are clearly other factors at play
