Jeff Carp was a monster harp player ! His chromatic playing on "All Aboard" blew me every which way ! Gone way too young ! We can only imagine how much more music was in him !

Wow! What a band. I never knew Sam and Billy D. were in the same band.

I've wondered in the past if they even knew each other. Here's my answer and it worked out well.

Actually, that was a curveball that Sam threw at us at the last minute. I think he felt it would allow him to sing better. None of us in the band agreed, but he was the leader, obviously, so... Billy did a good job, but the session would have swung harder if Sam had played instead.

By the way... this session was definitely not in 1966. It was sometime either late '68 or early-mid '69.

I knew of Jeff Carp but only through Muddy's "Fathers and Sons" recording. Seems to me that Carp should have been much more prominent in the blues scene. Stefan, thanks for posting this.

@@speedoj69 it was a bizarre incident in Panama. Still a bit of a mystery about what actually happened. I know Carp in Chicago in the late 60s.

My husband was telling me about listening to Sam Lay play at the Chessmate in Detroit in 168-69. And Muddy Waters and the other gods of the blues. Anyone out there still remember Morrie, the crazy old chess master than owned the place?

I certainly do, since I was in the band (along with Jeff Carp) in those days. Many nights at 6 Mile & Livernois, during those years.
