Most long distance triathlons are flat bike courses, and if you're a pro you will have no need to go into the small ring anyways during the race.

But you also see two rings. Finer granularity of gears and drive train efficiency is better. Penalty is less aero.

Can anyone tell me, does biking and swimming compliment running fitness ? And if so,how??
@JoshNishitani
@JoshNishitani Жыл бұрын
Both compliment running fitness since they’re both stimulating the cardiovascular system, however, swimming doesn’t really translate as well to running because it involves a lot more upper body, whereas cycling fitness can crossover (obviously not as good as just running) because it is closer to running utilising the lower body to generate power. Really good cyclists typically have a good aerobic base due to the nature of the sport which translates well to running, however, they lack the specificity
@na-dk9vm
@na-dk9vm Жыл бұрын
@@JoshNishitani thanks. So, I'm a runner, but I have access to a pool and access to a stationary bike.. if I add these into my weekly training, my cardiovascular system would improve and I'd see benefits to my running ??
@MeatlessNugget
@MeatlessNugget Жыл бұрын
@@na-dk9vm yes, cross training is a fantastic compliment. if you want to be a better runner focus on that more of the time. But overall switching it up here and there is great for the body
@JoshNishitani
@JoshNishitani Жыл бұрын
@@na-dk9vm If I were to recommend one over the other its whatever one you are more willing to do. Cycling is going to be better than swimming in supporting your running ability. Its a great way to increase overall training volume without the physical load. But be careful with the intensity, I would recommend only doing easy rides, and keep your workouts running specific.
@williamdavis7118
@williamdavis7118 Жыл бұрын
Sorta, swimming and biking build your cardio system just as running does but muscles used and impact loads are very different across each platform thus being a good swimmer and biker doesn’t correlate to being a good runner.

Is it genetic that people hold muscle while doing a lot of endurance training? I just seem to melt
@NLghost010
@NLghost010 Жыл бұрын
yeah, i keep like 90% of the muscle from gym time while i've been doing only running and cycling for 5-6 hrs a week for a year now. Other side of that coin is i'm not very gifted at endurance sports naturally so that sucks. Good luck bro.

@NLghost010
@NLghost010 Жыл бұрын
Bro the context is a triathlete in the video and he's talking about endurance training. Not about pumping iron in the gym. So eating extra in this context will just make you fat.
@Ronaldoisboss
@Ronaldoisboss Жыл бұрын
@@NLghost010 it's pretty difficult to eat enough to gain weight while training for a triathalon. If you eat enough you can slowly lose weight, rather than drop it very quickly and lose muscle along with it. It seemed to me this person wanted to know how to maintain muscle mass while training for a triathalon.

You know how to suffer .Now get something out of it.
