Sam Mitchell_ leaf without a tree (song from Firepoint comp 1969)

Taken from firepoint compilation album of blues from 69. I don't know much about Sam apart from he was a legendary slide guitar man and muck respected session musician.
There is a large slide guitar compilation called "The art of bottleneck slide guitar" that is the only other thing I have found.
This track I got from Firepoint that I have had for ages, this song litteraly jumped out at me its absolutely amazing and I dearly wish the guy had moved out on his own and recorded some solo albums because if this track is anything to go buy He was an undiscovered genius it will litteraly blow you away, its so atmospheric almost eerie whilst being utterly beautiful and mesmerising.

Still miss my old friend Sammy. We grew up together. Started learning guitar together. Blues all the way! We used to hang out in a coffee bar come folk club called the Green Moose in Liverpool. What a grounding being surrounded by musicians and just hanging out. Happy days in Brighton too. Hitching and sleeping on the beach. He was a great guy. Loved and missed.

any one guess the tuning sounds like a minor tuning .

D minor. DADFAD - 0-----0-----0-----0 - 3-----2-----1-----0 - 0-----0-----0-----0 - 0-----0-----0-----0 - 3-----2-----1-----0 - 0-----0-----0-----0 Then slide from 3rd fret to 5th fret So its 3 2 Cant unserstand, lord cant 1 understand, oh lord whats happening to 0 me Then slide part No idea what the finger picking is i just mess around and make sure to really ring out the second and fifth string when playing and occasionally ring on the 6th string. Hope that helps and i know its been a very long time so i hope you still come on here

Went to many a gig round Putney as my friend was in a trio with him . It was bopping Bumped into him at Blackbushe Airport where Dylan played the Last Waltz with the Band . Gave him a lift back to London to stories of Graham Bond and Long John Baldry

Stumbled upon this video, wonderful stuff. Sammy is one of the greatest. His oily slide vibrato and musicianship in general is amazing. He left us too early...

no problem man. Yea its a sick joke that he didn't do more stuff he was apparently a well respected session guitarist. Its just a crying shame someone didn't encourage him to write more. :(
