Brilliance! This discussion is inspiring. Thank you for sharing with us. My experience is also that many of us gay men do not understand who we are [underneath our masks and callouses] and what we need [basic human needs]. We relegate ourselves to anonymous and compulsive sex, because we do not understand that we have instinctual and nonnegotiable human needs for emotional intimacy and vulnerability. While physical intimacy, like drug use, can bring pleasure, it also distracts us from our craving for the deeply satisfying feeling of emotional trust, intimacy, and vulnerability. Our layers of complex trauma [due to systemic homophobia] and the dearth of models of healthy homosexual male relationships, leave many of us desperate to connect to others, platonically and romantically, and clueless as to how. Active participation in therapy continues to be some of my best life choices. Best to all on the journey to understanding and loving ourselves.

I am not familiar with Sam Morris's work. Nor is he my type, even though he is good looking! So I kind of stumbled into this video, initially being triggered. I have a love-hate relationship with adult content creators. Because just like those grindr hookups, they also scratch that itch without ever feeding it. I do struggle with shame, body image issues and it is unthinkable for me to project myself out there like that. It must be mind numbing. But Sam also explained a lot of things beautifully well, especially after the 35 min mark where he gets into the psychology of us queers. I have to say, thjat I agreew that everybody in our society is homophobic, but only within the context of our culture. Before christianity, queers where revered and celebrated. I do wonder how fathers in a different culture would emotionally bond, even celebrate having a queer son.

Jon and Sam. As always, Thank You Both. Okay....OMG! Eh? Interesting, intriguing and well " eye opening"! Don't get me wrong being older and lived through so many changes in ( quote) " gay life" I am well aware of this how can I put it?... Lifestyle? Not my bag yet when Sam talks so openly and with such honesty and so directly it really hits. Fascinating, different and difficult. Yes this is a " raw" one for sure. Another listen is required for sure. Thank you again. ( Jon: Australia!? Wow! Hope it goes well). Stay safe.

The comments about fathers was interesting. I wonder if the advent of more same sex parents will change this.?
