There are a lot of doubts and rumours amongst fans and the media world about the prevalence of extra professional activities amongst players and cricket officials. This state of affairs is not only a demoralising factor for the players but an utter dampener of the morale and enthusiasm of the fans. Every sport thrives on its fan base, without which it dies an ignominious end. Hockey is an example. If the govt, the PCB and the players themselves are keen to keep these sports ( like cricket ) alive, the govt should appoint a commission of inquiry under an experienced judge to delve into the reality, ascertain the validity of doubts/ accusations , for the authorities to chart out a future course of action. Otherwise, under the highly dubious climate that exists, most enthusiasts will, as some already have done, stop supporting our national cricket team and look forward to 'Gulli Danda'/ kite flying and other such native sports that street urchins are fond of.
