I heard that same exact scream at 44:05 when I was 10 or 11. I went on a tour with my grandma and my aunt. During the tour I heard that scream and I looked around to see if anyone else had heard it but no one seemed to have heard it except me. Reminded me specifically of what the tour guide did with the playing card on the portrait of Kate, the little girl who died young of yellow fever. Staring into a mirror in the dark is actually a common way to hallucinate because your brain is bored and can’t see. It fills in the gaps with what it thinks should be there, and is usually wrong. Especially when paired with power of suggestion, Sam could see things that aren’t there.
