Close. A comet is in the gravitational field or pull of a star or planet. A meteor is a piece of a comet and a meteorite is a meteor that has entered the earth's atmosphere 👍👍

Also, I think a comet is an icy space rock, and the reason we can see it from Earth when it hasn't entered our atmosphere is because the closer it gets to the sun, the more gas it produces which is visible to the naked eye.
